A living room is usually the center of the stage in every household. We spend most of our time in the living room. We also entertain our guests in the living room. It is precisely why I always emphasize the living room decor. It’s supposed to be top-notch.

If your living room is dull and boring, you’ve come to the right place. In this article today, I’m going to highlight a few simple yet incredible ways you can add a lively touch to your living room. Have a look:

Choose a Theme

First and foremost, you need to choose a theme for your living room. It goes the same for other rooms in your house. Interior design without an appropriate theme never works well.

I prefer a subtle theme for my living room. The reason being, lighter shades make your space appear to be more spacious. If your living room is large and spacious, you can choose a darker shade. On the other hand, if it’s small or medium-sized, you must stick to lighter hues.

Wood is also available in a variety of shades, so keep this rule in your mind when choosing the shade of the wood for your living room. It should be the same for the furniture and other ornamental things.

Wallpaper

Once you’re done choosing the theme, it’s time to move ahead. Adding new wallpaper to your living room is going to make a major change. You can also repaint the walls, but wall paint is usually quite expensive.

On the flip side, wallpaper is cheap. There’s a massive variety of wallpapers available in the market, so you’ll have lots and lots of options to choose from. Be sure to keep the theme of your living room in mind when choosing the wallpaper.

You can also create a contrast combination by adding dark wallpaper to one side of the living room and light to the other. It’s a cost-effective trick to make a prominent change.

Keep it Clean

It doesn’t matter how much you spend on the decor and design of your living room, nothing would look good if it isn’t clean. That’s right, guys. Cluttered and unclean spaces never attract anyone; thus, it’s crucial to maintain cleanliness.

Make sure to de-clutter the space every day and please use a vacuum to clean and mop at the same time. I would also suggest using an air freshener afterward. A place that smells great is usually more comfortable compared to the one that stinks. Yes, the ambiance matters.

Area Rugs

People think of carpets as old-fashioned, but area rugs will never go out of style. You have my word on this one. Invest in a nice area rug and add a pop of color to your living room. For example, if your living room is white or beige, you can add a dark-colored area rug to it.

The color scheme of my living room is light grey, so I’ve added a dark pink area rug to it. It adds an amazing dash of color to space, making it appear quite attractive. Area rugs are available in different designs and sizes. Please be careful when choosing the size of your area rug, get one according to the dimensions of your living room.

Lighting

The lights in your living can make or break the entire ambiance of the place. If the lighting in your living room is too dark, it would look sad and gloomy. Similarly, lights that are too bright will make you and others uncomfortable.

If you ask me; I always suggest adding contemporary lights to the living room. If your budget allows, you must bring in a crystal chandelier. Trust me; it will make your space appear extravagant.

In case you’re on a budget, I have a solution for that as well. You can add contemporary ceiling lights to your space. Floor lamps can also do the trick. You can purchase a few curvy floor lamps and place one at every corner. They look quite trendy and so will your living room.

Artwork

No interior design is ever complete without artwork. I’m an art lover and I believe one painting in your living room can make a massive difference. It is something I recommend to everyone.

If you’re redesigning your home or simply working on the decor, you must not forget about the artwork. There’s a lot more to it than paintings. You can add a sculpture to your living room for that vintage yet luxurious appearance.

Simultaneously, there are different wall-hanging ornaments available in the markets. People also get customized cushions with different artwork. Such things can add warmth to your space; hence, it’s a fabulous idea.

Indoor Plants

Last but not least, please don’t forget to bring a few indoor plants. Adding green to your living room can significantly contribute to its comfort. Not to forget, green is said to be the color of peace and tranquillity.

Although indoor and outdoor plants both work well, outdoor plants usually require lots of sunlight in order to stay alive. Thus, indoor shade-loving plants are recommended for interior decor.

I know a lot of you will be concerned about the bugs plants attract. Well, you need not worry. Plants like mint, rosemary, lemon, and peppermint come with bug-repelling properties. Thereby, they’re safe to be kept inside the house. They will repel all kinds of bugs, keeping your living room safe.

The Takeaway

How simple is that? Such little amendments can make a notable difference at the end of the day. They can make your living room stand out. So if you wish to become the talk of the town, I’d say you must make these changes before hosting the next get-together for your friends or family members. I wish you all the best, my friends. Have a wonderful day ahead.
