Questionable Fashion Trends That Are Coming Back

The fashion world has many celebrated trends, but some are questionable. Here’s a list of five questionable fashion trends that are making a comeback.

Cash for your car

The fashion industry is gearing up for the fall and winter seasons and is rolling out its best designs. These fashion shows birth new trends that we will see in social media and fast fashion every year. Brands like Zara, H&M, ASOS, and Fashion Nova are putting their thinking caps on to find ways to incorporate these inspirations into their new clothing items.

However, a few of these “new” trends are a bit…questionable. Let’s look at five of the most popular but questionable fashion trends coming back this year.

Oversized Puffy Sleeves

In 2021, the fashion world fully embraced the ‘90s and ‘00s again, pushing ‘90s fashion trends into 2022. We moved away from skinny jeans and tight clothing to more baggy and oversized looks. Well, in 2023, expect to enter the ‘80s because oversized puffy sleeves are back, baby! Princess Diana popularized this trend in 1981 when she married Prince Charles.

Bold Shoulder Pads

The ‘80s came knocking because bold shoulder pads were slowly making their way into every department store again. While we have seen this trend creeping into the fashion world again, shoulder pads are back in full force, with blazers becoming a big part of everyday fashion.

Micro-Sunglasses

Big sunglasses are out, and small, sleek sunglasses are in. In the early 2010s, oversized Gucci sunglasses were the “it” pair every pop socialite had in LA. Now, we’re taking inspiration from the ‘90s and are embracing the slim sunglasses trend. Brands like Dior, Balenciaga, and Prada have helped in this comeback trend.

Tie-Dye Everything

Another questionable trend making a comeback is tie-dye. Although this trend never left, it’s becoming more prevalent in fashion influencer posts. The pandemic in 2020 allowed everyone to be more hands-on in creating DIY projects, like tie-dyed tote bags or T-shirts. Many people are rocking their DIY fashion creations—even if their shirts look like a rendition of their 6th-grade camping trip.

Puffy Vests and Jackets

Whether you’re in 60-degree or 30-degree weather, you will most likely see someone sporting a puffy vest. In the ‘90s, we had hip-hop legends and pop stars who didn’t mind showing off their “rough” fashion sense—and it always involved a puffy vest or jacket. Now that the large silhouette and streetwear are returning, you should keep your eyes peeled for puffy vests and jackets.
