Los Angeles is home to some of the most well known sports teams in the US. But who should you try to watch when you are in the City of Angels? Read on to find out

Sports Teams to Watch in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is one of the most popular cities in the world when it comes to music, entertainment and even food. Millions of tourists flock to the City of Angels every year – and many more have decided that they want to be part of this great city.

One of the reasons why LA is so popular is that it is home to some of the greatest sports teams that feature in all the popular California betting markets. But who do you go to see if you’re in town? Read on to find out all you need to know about the best sports teams in the city.

Hoop Dreams

When it comes to basketball, everyone has heard of the Los Angeles Lakers. Along with the Boston Celtics, the Lakers hold the record for the most NBA championships and have featured some of the biggest names in the sport over the years. From Magic Johnson in the 1980s – to LeBron James today.

The Lakers share a home arena with the Los Angeles Clippers. Not as historically successful, the Clippers have improved in recent years and are now a major draw at the Crypto.com Arena. You can also catch the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks at the same location in downtown LA.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Baseball is regarded as America’s favorite pastime – and Los Angeles is one of just four metropolitan areas to call itself home to two major league teams. The Dodgers relocated from Brooklyn in 1958 and play at Dodger Stadium in Elysian Park. They are one of the most successful teams in the league, winning the World Series on seven occasions.

The Los Angeles Angels started life as an expansion team in 1961. They have been known as the California Angels and the Anaheim Angels (where they currently play) and they are one of only three MLB franchises to win their sole appearance at the World Series back in 2002.

The World’s Game

If baseball is America’s pastime, then soccer is the world’s game. There has been a long history of the game in the city – and since 2018 there have been two teams representing Los Angeles. The LA Galaxy plays in Carson, California and is the most successful team in the history of Major League Soccer, winning five MLS Cups.

In 2018 LAFC played its first games in America’s top tier of soccer and soon became a firm favorite as well. Chivas USA had shut down in 2014 and Los Angeles seemed ready for a new team to get behind. LAFC plays its home games at the Banc of California Stadium in Exposition Park and has already grown a fierce rivalry with the Galaxy.

Reigning Champions

If you are looking to watch some real sporting champions then you need to get along to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood to catch the Los Angeles Rams. They have just won the second Super Bowl in franchise history and have some of the biggest names in the sport on the roster.

But, as with many of the sports in the city, the Rams are not the only football team in town. The Chargers began life in LA in 1959 but played just one season before relocating to San Diego. But in 2017 the Chargers came back home and now share the same home stadium with the Rams.

Escapades on Ice

Winter sports might not be what is immediately associated with LA. But hockey has been a major fixture of the sports scene in the city ever since the LA Kings joined the NHL as an expansion team back in the 1960s. As with any Los Angeles team, they attract a galaxy of stars and have won two Stanley Cup titles – in 2012 and 2014.

The Anaheim Ducks are the other hockey team in the area, formed by the Walt Disney Company in 1993 after the success of the Mighty Ducks movie the year before. They are no novelty team though – the Ducks also won the Stanley Cup in 2007.
