Building A Solid Mother-Daughter Bond

The bond between mother and daughter is stronger than any other parent bond, according to National Today. Up to 90% of women say they have a good relationship with their mother, but most of them still hope for it to be even better. One LA-based mother and daughter who clearly have a solid bond is Reese Witherspoon and her 22-year old daughter Ava Phillippe. The pair walked the red carpet together last December at the LA premiere of Sing 2. So, how can you build a bond with your mom like Reese and Ava?
Spend Quality Time Together
One study found that the more time children spent with their parents, the longer the parent lived. CBS News reports that 60% of young adults meet up with their mom at least once per week, so many daughters are already doing the right thing. But to really build a solid bond, try to make this regular meetup a really engaging one. For example, you could look through old family photos together and reminisce or create a scrapbook. If you share a hobby, think about joining a class together, such as cooking, art, or pilates. Last year, Rumer Willis and her mom Demi Moore were photographed leaving an LA pilates studio, showing that if it’s a good enough hobby for celeb mom-daughter pairings, it’s good enough for anyone.
Spoil Her
Your mom will have given up so much for you over the course of your childhood, so it’s time to spoil her to show your appreciation. Her birthday, Christmas, and Mother’s Day are ideal occasions to show her how much you care. Shockingly, one in five forget about their mom on mother’s day, according to KVAL, which is a sure fire way to damage the bond between the two of you. This Mother’s Day, a special Mum-And-Me-Ah! Brunch is being held in a secret LA location and is highly recommended for moms who love Abba. Most moms will also love Mother’s Day spa gifts. These usually include massages, skin care treatments, and relaxing in a sauna. You could even opt for one that provides a lavish gift bag at the end of it. To make the day as enjoyable as possible for your mom, book a mother and daughter package, so you get to spend the day with her.
Stay in Touch
Moms understand that their daughters are busy with their own lives. Studies have even found that work and commuting negatively impacts the amount of contact between adult children and their parents. However, not staying in touch with your mom may make her worry and feel pushed out. Make her feel important by using your commute time to have a chat or to send a quick message asking her how she is. 38% of moms say contact from their daughter a few times per week is ideal. Even if you don’t have time for a lengthy chat, send a photo of your kids playing or squeeze in a 10-minute video call at the weekend.
The mother-daughter bond is one like no other. It needs nurturing, though, so you need to make every effort to make time for your mom.
