As the weather gets cooler, eco-conscious shoe brand, Blowfish Malibu recently launched its 4Earth Fall collection; a footwear capsule of boots made with an upper composed of recycled plastic.

Additionally, the California-based brand is bringing back some of their sneaker classics such as the Marley with the same upper just in time for the cold-weather season.

To celebrate the release of the collection, Blowfish Malibu hosted a live panel discussion webinar earlier this month centered around the capsule and the #4Earth4Life challenge. The panel also gave tips on how to continue to live a greener lifestyle in times of COVID-19.

The webinar featured Blowfish Malibu’s Marketing Manager, Allie Woerner as well as their women’s shoe designer, Marcy Cail. Featured alongside these presenters were: Aditi Mayer (Photojournalist, Sustainable Fashion Blogger, and Labor Rights Activist), Lauren Ferreet (Environmentalist and Video Producer), and Nancy Downes (Campaign Organizer for Oceana).

During the virtual panel, Marcy shared her belief that fashion has the ability to adapt to environmental changes on a global level, but feels that the industry is still in the beginning stages of this process: “It’s definitely moving in the right direction and I think that a lot of people kind of fear it because they went to have an approach that it’s all or nothing.”

“Every little step that you take does make a difference,” added Marcy.

Over the course of the hour-long webinar, all presenters shared the same sentiment that more plastic-free choices are needed for consumers. The panelists shared how incorporating slight lifestyle changes and conscious consumerism all helped them become “disruptors” in shedding light on the need to conserve the environment.

When asked what brands can do on a social level to encourage an eco-friendly lifestyle, Mayer thought the key to it all is sustainability.

“I think so many brands want to jump on sustainability without understanding that it is a process and you can’t shift supply chains and materials overnight,” said Mayer.

“Brands are now positioning themselves as education hubs rather than just sellers of products and I think the biggest thing about sustainability is showing – not telling,” continued Aditi.

To participate in the #4Earth4Life challenge, simply eliminate your use of single-use plastics for one week and document your experience on social using the #4Earth4Life tag. For more information, click here.

Like their Spring line, which debuted in March, Blowfish Malibu will also be donating $1 to Oceana, a nonprofit organization dedicated to cleaning up the world’s oceans.

With the new additions, Blowfish Malibu joins a growing list of shoe companies working to reduce our environmental footprint.

The new collection features various tones and is now available in stores. The capsule includes:

Roxie4Earth, a comfy lug sole boot with ruching across the toe and decorative straps with buckles
Romio4Earth, a classic lug boot with strap and buckle detailing
