Eat Beforehand

A great word of advice is to eat before your appointment. Have a full meal and arrive with a full stomach. This will help regulate your blood sugar.

If your blood sugar levels are low when you get a piercing, it can cause you to feel dizzy or can cause fainting. To prevent this, you want to not only eat but bring a snack or beverage high in sugar with you as well just in case.

Bring an ID or an Adult

Most professional piercers won’t pierce you if they believe you’re underage. The age requirements differ depending on where you go. Some might require you to be 16 or older and others might require you to be 18 or older.

If you’re underage, then bring an adult with you to avoid getting turned away. If you’re of age but look younger than you are, then be sure to bring your ID with you.

Choose the Right Piercer

The next step is to choose the right piercer. If you’re getting the lobe of your ear pierced, then you have quite a few options. Just about any professional piercer can tackle this task.

You should, however, look at reviews before selecting the right person just to be safe. If you’re piercing a different part of the ear such as the tragus, conch, forward helix, or something else, then you’ll want to contact a local tattoo parlor.

Tattoo parlors have the tools (a hollow needle) required to pierce these parts of the ear correctly. Piercing guns aren’t appropriate for piercing the ear above the lobe.

Select Your Earrings

Not all earrings can be used to pierce ears. When you arrive for your appointment, be sure to browse through piercing earrings. Piercing earrings have a sharper point on them to better pierce your ear with.

Keep in mind that you might not have a lot of options to choose from, but you can switch them out when it’s time. Ask the person piercing your ear how long you must wait before switching your earrings out for wholesale earrings.

Know the Process

After selecting your earrings, the piercer will clean the area of your ears you’re piercing. Next, they’ll mark where the piercings will go. They’ll ask you to look in a mirror to ensure you like the placement of the piercings before they actually pierce it.

Next is the piercing itself. It’s a quick process with minimal pain. Follow all of the instructions in your after-care packet, and you shouldn’t have much trouble.
