When a high profile chef who spent over 25 years as head chef with one of LA’s most high-profile restaurants opens a cozy, neighborhood restaurant of his own, that’s what you call a best-kept secret.

Residents of Beverly Hills are delighting in the fact that Chef Jose Prado, formerly of the world-renowned, The Ivy, with over 40 years of restaurant experience, has added yet another restaurant to his list of family-owned eateries, Cocina Primavera.

The menu is a contemporary twist to California cuisine with unique Latin American and Carribean flavors. Using only the freshest ingredients, each dish is plated to perfection. This type of cuisine and flavors can only come out of a long-time culinary family traditions.
For starters, we tried the the highly-touted Louisiana-style crabcakes, lightly-crisped and served with their homemade tartar sauce. Very authentic and lots of crab! Another must-try was the Sweet Corn Tamales with sour cream and spicy Tomatillo sauce.

Crabcakes and their great secret-recipe Sangria!

Salmon Negro and Seafood Pasta

Signature dishes we personally tried and loved were the Salmon Negro with spicy black pepper sauce with fresh pineapple and fried plantain, served with yellow rice and black beans. Seafood Pasta with jumbo prawns scallops and swordfish in a homemade marina sauce. We loved both dishes.

Other signature items include:
Black Pepper Chicken , which is grilled breast of chicken topped with a spicy black pepper sauce and fresh pineapple, (both spicy and sweet) served with yellow rice, black beans and plantains; Grilled Swordfish in a lemon-butter caper sauce, lots of salads and homemade soups.

For dessert, we opted for the Beverly Hills classic dessert, the Apple Tarte Tatin from a family recipe. Delicious, and the crust was perfect!

Cocina Primavera has nice little nuances such as Coke in bottles from Mexico with real cane sugar as opposed to corn syrup that is in Coca Cola here. 17 year old Tyler Emery enjoys the real thing!
