4th Annual LA WineFest Brings Together Wine, Fun and Charity

Wines, bourbon, sake, artisinal spirits, and unique beers will set the tone for Los Angeles’ largest wine festival, returning to the Southland June 6th and 7th, and featuring over 100 wineries and craft beers. This year’s LA WineFest is also proud to support the Children’s Tumor Foundation, Wildwoods Foundation, and the Hollywood YMCA.

A Full Weekend of Tasting and Treats

From 2-6 p.m. each day, the wine-focused weekend will present a series of educational seminars, great food, and plenty of wine tasting. With more than 500 wines available for guests to sample, LA WineFest 2009 will also be home to an outstanding selection of artisanal spirits and thirst-quenching craft beers.

Educational and Entertaining Seminars Abound

The return of Georg Riedel will be a highlight at this year’s festival. Riedel, the owner and founder of Riedel Crystal, will conduct a special wine-tasting seminar Saturday, June 6 at 5:15 p.m. The seminar, priced at priced at $125 per person, includes a gift set of Riedel wine stems for participants to use during the tasting and to then take home.

Two additional special programs, priced at $30 each, will be available for festival guests to sign up for: Bourbon tasting with Bernie Lubbers of Knob Creek, and a sake review with Ichiro Saito of Hakutsuri Sake. A variety of fun, free and educational wine seminars will also be offered, hosted by wine experts Ken Volk of Kenneth Volk Cellars, Jim Fioleck of the Santa Barbara Vintners Association, and Master of Wine Patrick Farrell, among others.

Prices for the 2009 LA WineFest are $55 day pass, $100 couples pass, or $100 individual weekend pass. Passes can be purchased online or local retailers such as Hows Grocery, Lou on Vine, and Venice Beach Wines, among others. See www.lawinefest.com for complete list of participating retailers.

This year, LA WineFest honors Reed Foster, a veteran California winemaker and co-founder of Ravenswood Winery. Though officially retired from Ravenswood in 2005, Foster has since served as the President of the California Cabernet Society, and was also a co-founder of the famous Vintners Club in San Francisco in 1973.

LA WineFest was founded in 2005 by renowned wine educator, columnist and Sommelier for the Escoffier Association of Southern California, Dr. Joel M. Fisher.
