If you’re planning on dining out anytime next month, April 17th, a Thursday, would be the day to do it. Why, you ask?
Because April 17th is the 14th annual Dine Out Los Angeles event, where all participating restaurants donate 20% or more of their proceeds that day to help combat hunger and homelessness to those disabled by HIV and or AIDs.
The event is hosted by Aid for AIDS (AFA), a non-profit agency which assists individuals and households disabled or impoverished by HIV or AIDs.
To date, over fifty restaurants all across Los Angeles (“from West Hollywood to Silverlake to Hollywood to Long Beach to Pasadena to West Los Angeles to Beverly Hills to the Valley” and more) have signed up, so there really is no excuse NOT to go out and enjoy a delicious and socially conscious meal. Aid for AIDS was founded in 1983 by a group of friends and has helped over 15,000 women, men, and children touched by AIDs since then. It is the main provider of service and financial assistance to people touched by HIV or AIDs and living below the poverty line in Los Angeles County.
AFA aids eligible individuals and families in paying for necessities such as housing, transportation, nutrition, medicine, and utilities. Assistance is limited, as it is meant to supplement government benefits or act as emergency aid. AFA aims to improve independence in its benefactors.
AFA’s mission statement is: “Providing financial assistance for necessities of life to adults and children living below the poverty-line with HIV/AIDS primarily in Los Angeles County. Our goals are to prevent homelessness and hunger and to enhance self-sufficiency and independent living.”
