November 8th:
Directed by Darryl Roberts, “America the Beautiful” will be screened on the opening night of the festival at 8:00 p.m. at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Wit, humor and inspiration are the tools used in this film to challenge the mainstream idea of beauty. This film aims to remind everyone what real “beauty” is about in a world in which the cosmetic industry, fashion world, pharmaceutical, diet pill and plastic surgery industries bombard us with the ideals that we “should” strive for. The film will also shed light onto how these various industries can and have influenced depression, eating disorders and other self-esteem issues. An “Alternative, Eco-Friendly Fashion Show” celebrating women of all shapes and sizes will follow the film.

November 9th:
Directed by Kevin Booth, “American Drug War” will be screened on November 9th at 9:15 p.m. also at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. This film sheds light on the drug war and the corruption caused by money, power and greed, while also aiming to show what we can do about the problem. A Q&A session with the director will follow the film.

November 10:
Directed by Peter J., “Zeitgeist” will be screened at the Egyptian Theatre at 9:15 on November 10. The film can be considered an expose, encouraging people to look at the world- and at events- with a more critical eye and realizing that things are not always what the mass population might think they are. A Q&A session with the director will also follow this film.

November 11:
Persia White will host the 2007 Artivist Awards on November 11th at 7 p.m. with the red carpet ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. The awards will honor various artists who have set a wonderful example of how to change the world and make a difference. • Oh, Petrobras is not a ‘sponsor’, now they have them listed in their mag as the “official community partner”. Do they think we are dumb. Have they all gone mad?!

I really feel bad for the filmmakers Artivist represents.
