Jenn LaskeyJenn Laskey of Red Light Productions invited friends and colleagues to an industry mixer Thursday night at the brand new renovated club Social, formally known as the Hollywood Athletic Club on Sunset and Wilcox.

Familiar with the building from the past, I was really looking forward to another night of socializing at this very sophisticated hang out, which first debuted in the early 20’s and attracted such names like Charlie Chaplin. The club houses a stunning restaurant, another invention of Asia De Cuba’s creator Jeffrey Chodorow, two private dining areas called the green room and the velvet room and a game room upstairs, where VIP members can play pool or comfortably lounge in leather chairs and mingle. The evening started with little hors d’oevres including empinadas, polenta w/ sausage, fried cheese sticks and salmon on croutons in the eclectic bar downstairs next to the Drew Barrymore ballroom. I was accompanied by my charming friend David, an actor and entrepreneur, who made sure I didn’t run out of my favorite drinks (Mojitos) and told me everything about his last trip to Brazil, where he assisted on a shoot for Brazilian Vogue.

David is the perfect partner in crime for events like this, chatty like a girl friend yet a lot less maintenance and much cuter to look at, we never run out of things to talk about and somehow we always manage to meet new people who we’ll randomly start talking to after a drink or two. This time we attracted a passionate African American director named Frederic who just finished a docu-drama about South Central L.A. and a young Latina and ingénue at Warner Brothers, named Sarah, who seemed a fascinated and sincere listener. So what started out as a mellow gathering turned into a heated discussion and ended in hugs and card exchanges, as if we’d planed a get together all week and wanted to make sure this evening was going to be remembered. I knew we had learned a lot about ourselves during this evening’s conversation and when it was time to go, I couldn’t help but wonder if it was the place or the people who attracted this wonderful feeling of growth in this place that we call Tinseltown.

Either way, Thursday is definitely the night to go out and mingle, as  according to our hostess Jenn Laskey,  the fourth day of the week is "…the premiere artistic, trendsetting, and entertainment driven night" of Hollywood.

Join Laskey and the rest of the beautiful people at Social Hollywood every Thursday, where partygoers are treated to acclaimed DJs playing a variety of different music in several different rooms and a Moroccan themed bar/ultra lounge/restaurant.
