Sweetees: Celebrity Style from a Globe-Trotting Californian

Melody Kulp has the Midas touch when it comes to creating fun, flirty styles and trends. Sweetees, her collection of sassy, sexy t-shirts, dresses, tops, and skirts, would win her enough bragging rights for any young entrepreneur, especially when they’re worn by celebrities such as Beyonce, Kate Hudson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Drew Barrymore, to name just a few. And any designer would love to enjoy the coverage that national fashion magazines such as Vogue, In Style, Elle, and Lucky or trendsetting stores (including Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel, Fred Segal, Kitson, and Nordstrom) have devoted to Sweetees.

But believe it or not, this is Melody’s second blockbuster endeavor. In 1998, Melody hit upon the brilliant marriage of rhinestones and hair clips. Next thing you know, after being spotted by a buyer from Fred Segal, Sparkles by Mellie adorned the crown of nearly every starlet, model, stylist, and socialite slinking down the Oscar, Grammy, or Golden Globe red carpet or the high-fashion runways. Stores couldn’t keep Sparkles on their shelves.

This massive and unexpected success paved the way for Sweetees, launched by Melody and her fiancé David Reinstein, but it was a small glimpse of what she would unleash with her new line. Sweetees began humbly, when Melody worked her magic on simple t-shirts. Armed with scissors and a few embellishments, she added appliqués or a sprinkle of Swarovski. When the inquiries started rolling in, she made the natural progression: Melody decided to start her own line and is now the co-founder of a multimillion-dollar business enterprise that can be found in 3,000 stores and a dozen nations across the globe.

Extending her reputation for joyous and spirited style, Melody sticks with striking, rainbow-inspired colors as cheerful as a California day. She then incorporates these vivid shades into shapes and silhouettes inspired by her worldwide travels to spots as far flung as Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa, and India.

Taken together, Sweetees perfectly captures that youthful joie de vivre. These looks scream sophisticated yet sexy, laid-back yet sharp, and they came in all forms: dresses, tops, camisoles, basic, and asymmetric. There’s something for anyone who wants to appear modern and young. They’re the perfect match for today’s increasingly worldly jeans selection and your favorite pair of shoes.

Who says lightning doesn’t strike twice? Not Melody Kulp, who’s created her own fashionable path – with multitudes of followers – more than once in her young life. Sweetees, her second dynamic business endeavor, confirms her reputation for charming, playful items that you can’t wait to put on. Whether you’re in the market for a sundress, a wrap top, or a feminine skirt, you’ll find the perfect piece at Sweetees. Just make sure Sarah Jessica Parker, Cameron Diaz, Uma Thurman, or one of the line’s celebrity clients don’t beat you to it.
