Shavo Odadjian, System of a Down bassist has expanded his 22Red cannabis line with four new live resin concentrates in Arizona – Papago Punch, Shred 22, Portuguese Kush and K9.
When it comes to cannabis, flower is the most popular category. However concentrates are another great option. 22Red takes fresh flower that has been cryogenically frozen, and then extracts and transforms the flower into live resin concentrates that are full spectrum cannabis, packed with natural flavor and are additive, pesticide and solvent free.
Arizona has long been a fan of 22Red and can now enjoy new strains available in badder and sauce form.
We caught up with Shavo to discuss the new launch:
LA’s The Place: How did you come up with the process for developing these?
Shavo Odadjian: We have many flower strains in Arizona and were interested in converting some of the genetics into concentrates. We started with Papago Punch, Shred 22, Portuguese Kush and K9. Those four stood out to me, but more will be coming soon.
LATP: What is the best way to use these?
Shavo: There is no best way, to each their own. Usually, I prefer a traditional dab rig, but lately I’ve been using the DabX.
LATP: Are people favoring these over regular cannabis?
Shavo: No, it’s not about favoring concentrates over flower. The flower market is a huge piece of the cannabis industry and a very important part of 22Red. But for those who prefer concentrates, they’re really getting a kick out of these and the sales are solid.
LATP: What are your particular favorites?
Shavo: I like Shred 22, because it’s a Sativa. I work a lot and I need to be alert, so Shred 22 works for me throughout the day.
LATP: What strains make for the best concentrates?
Shavo: Mostly strains that are high yielders and have high terpene profiles make for solid concentrates.
LATP: Is there ever going to come a time when people will be able to partake in places like bars and restaurants like they do alcohol? Thoughts?
Shavo: I’m sure it will be with time, there are already a bunch of consumption lounges in CA. They seem to separate cannabis and alcohol right now, and I think that will stay the same.
