LA’s The Place: What inspired you to launch HHemp?

Hhemp founder Bao Le

HHemp founder Bao Le

Dr. Bao Le: My son, who was diagnosed with autism at two and a half years old and suffered grand mal seizures and night terrors from age three. As it got worse, I started to introduce microdoses of CBD oil into his diet. After a few months he started to sleep longer, with fewer night terrors and less aggressive behaviors, and triggers. Eventually, with a higher dosage of CBD, his seizures lessened and I was able to slowly stop using medications with negative side effects, which led me to want to be able to learn how to extract my own CBD oil. In 2015, I applied for a license to extract and manufacture CBD and THC oil in California. After operating and producing lab tested CBD and THC oils for 100’s of companies in California, I was able to sell my company and started to focus on starting a lab in Oregon to work with hemp farmers and extract CBD oil. It was a great opportunity for me to utilize my experience in the construction of labs, building extraction systems, science-based data collection of plant medicine, and focus on more advanced techniques for isolating single compounds such as CBD, CBG, THC and CBN. The hemp industry needs this ability to be able to isolate compounds so that we can provide clean and safe CBD oil. (*Scroll down to see his video)

LATP: Many people know the benefits of CBD but can you explain the ‘mechanical’ details of how it’s absorbed by cell receptors and what that means?

Dr. Le: Our bodies have an ECS (Endocannabinoid System) that plays a role in regulating a range of functions and processes in our bodies, including sleep, mood regulation, appetite, memory, reproduction, and fertility. There are two main endocannabinoid receptors: CB1 receptors, which are mostly found in the central nervous system and CB2 receptors, which are mostly found in your peripheral nervous system, particularly in immune cells. CBD is readily able to be recognized by these receptors absorbed into your bloodstream and our body.

LATP: Out of all of the available compounds, why did you choose to develop CBG?

Dr. Le: I was introduced to CBG by a few hemp farmers that started to grow CBG on a mass scale while I was building my facility in Oregon. When testing regular CBD plants you would find only 2-3% of CBG in the CBD Plants. This new CBG plant tested at 15-17% CBGa and CBG with no CBDa, CBD, THCa or Delta-9 (THC). This was an incredible find and I started to purchase CBG plants and began extracting CBG oil. I then added CBG and CBD oil together and introduced it to my family and friends. The feedback was very positive and left me excited to learn more about CBG. By innovating ratios of CBG and CBD together I was able to create new product SKUs and start selling them. We were able to quickly become one of the first companies to sell CBG:CBD together and educate consumers about the multiple benefits.

LATP: Exactly how does CBG enhance CBD?

Dr. Li: CBG or Cannabigerol, is the precursor to the three main cannabinoids: tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA), cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), and cannabichromenic acid (CBCA). CBG is more powerful than CBD, in the sense that CBG opens the receptors in your ECS and provides an easier pathway to recognize CBD. This ability for CBG to enhance the body’s ability to recognize CBD helps the effectiveness of CBD.

LATP: How did the new Delta-8 come about and why?

Dr. Le: Delta-8 was created from a chemical process that isolated the Delta-8 compound from CBD oil when chemists started to use more advanced chemistry to find out more about plant compounds. New cannabinoids started to emerge in the industry and the effects became known to mimic the euphoric effects that are similar to Delta-9 (THC). There was a shift in the hemp industry and Delta-8 became a popular oil that was then infused to make different hemp products.

LATP: How is Delta-8 derived from hemp?

Dr. Le: There are chemical processes to take CBD oil and known solvents and mix them together. After the chemical process is complete, we have a post-process that we go through to isolate Delta-8.

LATP: Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Dr. Le: Delta-8 and other chemicals derived from CBD oil must be processed correctly and safely. Please call the companies that are making these products and ask them if they have lab tests to show potency. This ensures that the products are safe for people to consume. I’ve always strived to set rigorous health and safety standards for CBD:CBG products and I hope that more companies take this same path when it comes to plant innovation, science lab-testing.

LATP: Why is supporting veterans close to your heart?

Dr. Le: My dad is a veteran and told me to always help people without expecting anything in return and to “do one thing and do it well.” I have always wanted to produce a wellness CBD tincture to help people with mental health issues and last year I met an army veteran at a hemp trade show who was speaking at the event. We were able to get to know each other, which led me to want to begin producing a new line of CBG:CBD tinctures and donate 100% of the profits to his veterans-focused charity. Since that time we have been able to also donate funds and products to a few more veteran-based charities. I would like more CBD and hemp companies to follow my efforts and do the same to support veterans.

Thank you, Dr. Le, for taking the time to fill us all in on this wonderful new direction CBD has taken us.

Supporting Veterans

Hhemp.co in collaboration with non-profit organization Veteran Health Solutions is pledging to donate 100% of the profits from their wellness product line to support various veteran organizations across the nation. Dr. Bao Le launched this line with the goal of providing education and affordable access to CBG+CBD wellness products that can help with the various physical and mental health issues that Military service members and veterans face.

HHemp wellness line CBD CBG tincturesStudies have shown that the use of cannabinoid therapies had a positive impact on various ailments that plague veterans such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and many other issues. Particularly, the added benefits of CBG have also been shown to help with inflammation, pain and nausea.

“Cannabinoids such as cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabigerol (CBG) have both demonstrated potential anti-anxiety effects. In research settings, CBD has reduced both behavioral and physiological components of anxiety. And, in a study with patients living with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, CBD was positively associated with decreased anxiety relative to placebo.

CBG may also act as a line of defense against stress and anxiety. The reason for this is that CBG acts as a GABA reuptake inhibitor. These inhibitors are commonly prescribed to people looking to manage anxiety, chronic pain and insomnia. When the protein attaches to the GABA receptor, it produces an environment in the body that reduces anxiety and stress all while easing muscle tension. Some researchers believe that since CBG is a GABA reuptake inhibitor, it could produce similar effects, helping to manage physical and emotional obstacles created by anxiety.â€
