There are over one million hair and beauty salons in the US. Each one offers a variety of services, from simple haircuts and manicures to color corrections and shellac nails. With such an extensive array of salons and treatments, figuring out where to go and how much you can expect to pay can be overwhelming. How much should it cost to go to a salon? If you’re curious about the cost of salon services, read on for an overview of various treatment costs.

Salons Services: Quality and Cost

One thing to bear in mind is that there are different categories of hair and beauty salons ranging anywhere from very basic to high end. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. Higher-end salons often have greater qualification requirements than more basic ones. This difference is usually reflected in the cost of services.

Don’t fall prey to the consumer’s fallacy, though – it’s not necessarily true that a more expensive service will be better. Make sure to check out customer reviews of the salon before settling on it.

With that out of the way, let’s get into the typical costs of some of these salon services.

Hair Services: The Long and Short of It

The cost of getting your hair done varies around the country. The national average for the price of a woman’s haircut is $45, though they range anywhere from $35-150. Men get off a bit easier with a $34 average. Some salons offer gender-neutral haircut pricing where the cost is based solely on hair length. This can be an economical option if you’ve got shorter hair.

Coloring services range from $65-200. This includes partial and full highlights as well as full color.

Hair straightening can range anywhere from $130-$500. The cost of straightening treatments depends on a number of factors. Individuals with longer or thicker hair can expect to pay more.

Perms range from $60-150. Again, the longer your hair, the more you can expect to pay for a perm.

Nail Services: Scratching the Surface

Getting your nails done can vary widely in price depending on where you go. If you’re at a fancy hotel spa, for example, you can expect to pay about double your typical beauty salon prices. You can also expect to pay a bit more if the treatment includes a massage or gel/polish removal.

Manicures generally range from $10-40, and you can expect to pay about $10-15 more for a shellac polish.

Pedicures are a bit more expensive, usually in the $15-70 range. Adding shellac polish will still run an extra $10-15.
