The bars tend to close a little earlier in LA, there are lots of malls, and it can be difficult to drive around – however, it is often described as the music capital of the world, and a place where people go to live the American Dream. It has been a haven for upcoming music artists who are looking to make their name in the industry, and often people will move across the world to fulfill their dreams there. We’ve put together some of the reasons as to why LA is so popular with recording artists.

You can Make Lots of Connections

LA is renowned for having many connections in the music scene.  There are tons of music producers, DJs, vocalists, musicians and other artists that you can begin to build relationships with.  If you are looking to gain exposure for yourself and your brand – then the type of people you can meet here could be invaluable. There are also lots of events that you could attend to mingle and network, that you wouldn’t find in other cities. The difference between LA and other states is that you never know when you could bump into these people as they are everywhere which creates a wealth of opportunity.  Some of these creatives can help you get ahead in your career.

The Competition Can Push You Harder

There are lots of people looking for the same opportunities that you are in LA, so there is definitely an element of competition. This can be beneficial for you, as it pushes you to do better and also have peers that you can learn from. LA can be an intimidating place sometimes, there is lots of talent! Don’t let that put you off. There is always room for more artists, so keep trying. Everyone tends to be positive in LA and there is an understanding that it might not be an overnight thing – so keep on working at it. It is a lively and supportive city, so make sure you make the right connections that can build you up. If you find music connections with a common ground, they can end up forming a great support network for you.

There are Lots of Music Facilities

The good thing about LA is that you have the opportunity to take advantage of the facilities that they have. You will find that LA has some great recording studios out there that you can use to record your material. Make sure you choose one that will have all of the equipment you need and that fits within your budget requirements. There are a few Los Angeles recording studios out there, but as with everything – some are better than others. This LA recording studio for instance could be right up your street if you are looking to record a new track.

There is a Great Nightlife Scene

If you are just starting out in LA, you might want to get your name out there in the late-night music scene. There are so many entertainment venues that are on the lookout for top talent to perform. If you haven’t managed to meet any of them when you are networking, then don’t be afraid to knock on their door and ask if you can perform at one of their venues. Some of the best music talent has been discovered when performing a spot at a nightclub or bar. Here is a list of some LA bars that have great live music to check out.  It’s also good to visit these spots as a learning experience so that you can see what other artists are doing, and any more useful tips you could take from their performances.

It’s Not as Expensive as you May Think

If you aren’t an LA resident, you would be forgiven for thinking that everything is ridiculously expensive with a Hollywood Hills price tag to boot.  We have all watched Pretty Woman and made our assumptions. In actual fact, LA is quite affordable when you look into it. If you are considering moving to LA to pursue your music career, make sure you have conversations with lots of different realtors, and visit lots of apartments.  There are also many local social groups online that you could join ahead of your move, in which you can connect with people who are potentially looking for a roommate. The cost of living is also pretty reasonable too comparatively to most states – so don’t let that put you off.

If it was ever in doubt, these are some of the reasons why LA is a haven for people who want to make it in the music industry.  If you are looking to start your career, there is no time better than now to do it.
