Are you trying to learn more about the symptoms of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity? If yes, you should check out our guide here.

Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) is a condition in which a person has severe reactions to even mild chemical exposure. Everyday items, such as perfume, laundry detergent, and carpet give off toxins that cause pain and distress in those suffering from MCS.

There are many questions about what causes multiple chemical sensitivity, with no real answers. The most common theories are allergies or neurobiological sensitization. Although the cause isn’t clear, the suffering is. People who have MCS experience a variety of symptoms that affect their daily lives.

If you think you may have MCS, here are several symptoms to look out for.

Memory Loss

One of the common MCS symptoms is memory loss. This is a difficult symptom to live with because memory loss affects every aspect of your life. Aside from the obvious challenges of dealing with memory loss, studies have shown it can increase your risk of premature death.

Headaches

One of the many symptoms of chemical allergies is headaches. The throbbing, piercing, or squeezing pain comes with its own set of symptoms. People who experience headaches may also experience nausea, blurred vision, loss of appetite, and overall lower quality of life.

Disorientation

One of the more serious multiple chemical sensitivity symptoms is disorientation.

When you are disoriented, you experience feelings of mental confusion and disrupted attention. Feeling disorientated can be dangerous in many situations, such as driving, taking care of a child, or working with heavy machinery.

Muscle Pains

Dealing with increased sensitivity that leads to muscle pains is common for MCS sufferers. Even mild muscle pain can make it difficult to function normally and live a quality life. Chronic pain, including muscle pain, is debilitating and can lead to increased stress and depression.

Respiratory Problems

If you are sensitive to chemicals, you will likely experience some level of respiratory problems. Even the mildest chemicals can cause breathing problems and worsen existing conditions, like asthma. This is a dangerous symptom of MCS because respiratory issues increase your risk of premature death.

Skin Rashes

Skin rashes are also a common symptom of MCS. For most people, exposure to harsh chemicals can cause a rash, however, those suffering from MCS can experience rashes from mild chemicals. This makes the rash hard to treat and contain, which causes both physical and emotional stress.

Chronic Fatigue

For people with MCS, exposure to chemicals can cause chronic fatigue.

When you are experiencing chronic fatigue, your entire life is affected. Unlike normal tiredness, chronic fatigue does not get better with rest. This type of fatigue also affects your cognitive abilities.
