Gourmet Theme Park Restaurant: The International Cafe at Universal Studios Hollywood

Cash for your car

Instead of the typical food options when you visit a theme park like corn dogs, burgers, fries and churros, Universal Studios Hollywood theme park introduces The International Café, offering refined and healthy alternatives. Last night, Universal Studios Hollywood theme park hosted a regal “Bloggers’ Banquet” to celebrate the launch of the International Café and its Sante Restaurant Award and 2010 Chef of the Year award.

Los Angeles bloggers and journalists were given royal treatment with a four-course meal by Universal Studios Hollywood’s Executive Chef Eric Kopelow paired with wines showcasing the innovative menu of health-conscious and gourmet options. Guests were serenaded by live harp music as they enjoyed the delicious dinner.

International Café Menu

The meal began with three low-calorie soups: roasted cauliflower with cheddar, mushroom and corn bisque and a New York clam and mussel chowder. Next a fresh arugula and mozzarella salad, followed by a sampling of their sandwiches:

Shaved Roast Beef with Brie Cheese and Roasted Pears

Smoked Salmon with Pickled Onions, Cucumbers and Dill Sauce

Turkey with Muenster Cheese and Garlic Sauce

Much to the delight of the foodies in attendance was the fact that the International Cafe’s sandwich bread and BBQ potato chips are made fresh daily in house. They also cure the garlic dill pickles and olives in house.

Two desserts, a chocolate layered cake and a banana meringue tart, were the perfect ending to a delightful evening.

Award Winning

As mentioned, Universal Studios Hollywood’s International Café was recently given the honor of being the first theme park restaurant to win a Sante Restaurant Award for innovation and outstanding achievement in culinary service and hospitality. This prestigious Sante Award is the only peer-judged national restaurant and hospitality competition in North American.

Not only were they recently awarded the Sante Award, but also Executive Chef Eric Kopelow was recognized as “2010 Chef of the Year” by Chef Magazine.
