Motor City Legends ‘Rock the Runway’ at Opera

On Friday June 6th Hollywood rocked harder then usual. Clothing company Trendy Rags presented designers Motor City Legends’ and Fresh & Famous’ “Rock The Runway” fashion show. Glamorous event hosted by Joseph Rene with the Valentine Group at uber-chic Opera nightclub.Producer Joseph Rene at

Just before midnight, celebrity designer Joseph Rene cuts from a dark silhouette and commands the runway. In black pants, black shirt and a white belt, he creates a memorable, shadowy image. Within a few words, he disappears again and on comes a cavalry of pretty people.

Angels on the Walk

The clothing is contrasting. Blacks with splotches of gawdy gold and sprinkles of white. Hoodies, t-shirts and thermals for men and women. You’ve never seen cloth look as good as when it’s tightly canvassed around these attractive bodies.

i Model at They all look good, but some models are more charismatic than others. A woman pounces onto the runway, commanding attention, purring like an simmering leopard.

After the second lap, the leopard woman turns to the male model following her. He’s in a hoodie, bare-chested underneath. With a naughty smile, she unzips him a few inches. In a moment of improv, she achieves what might be the sexiest moment of the night. Watching her smile, watching him react.

The crowd goes crazy. Girls in the front row stand and cheer loud enough that nearby security give them a closer look.
In recent years models have been displaying a closed-off look as they strut. Pursed lips, tight eyes, kinda pouty. Those-who-know say this gets the audience to feel intrigued.  Sometimes that’s the case, but this time they felt bored. Rushed.

Fresh Air

During the second lap, one of the models, Penny Drake, breaks the mold. She comes out smiling, almost holding back a giggle. As she walks forward, she lets out one more killer grin before getting control. This is now the sexiest moment.

The clothes caress her body in an elegance that a French poet could write about for miles.  The fabric clings to her curves the way most women could only wish for.  Several men in the audience stop and swivel for a better view. She’s got the spotlight without even trying – just being natural.

Drake spearheads the effort and suddenly they’re all squirming out smiles. Smirks, half-grins. There’s nothing sexier than a beautiful face showing emotion.
Nothing Sexier

The tone changes everything. It tells us the clothing is fun.  Wear it, look good, feel good, get attention. If one woman out there can illicit the reaction in public, that Penny Drake did here, it’s worth it. For the guys, buy your woman the outfit, and cross your fingers they wear it well. You’ll thank yourself every time.

The show is over far too soon. Rene jumps back on the walk with a Christmas morning smile. Happy from the applauding crowd. “What an amazing show. Thank you so much”.  Some time afterwards, he’s just as happy, walking out with the models. “Didn’t they do an amazing job. Big thanks to Motor City Legends and Fresh and Famous”.

Good Feel to it

Opera Nightclub has a European feel. Just past the entrance is a smoker-friendly courtyard, the perimeter lined with candlelit booths. Even further in the distance is a smaller corner bar. Make a hard right and you land in the main room, a two-tier, barely-lit rectangle. Nearby is one bar, a second, bigger one on the far side, near the front entrance.  In the middle is the catwalk used from the show – normally a dance space.
