Crosby LogginsIt is really no surprise that Crosby Loggins (son of two-time Grammy-winner Kenny Loggins) was voted America’s fan favorite on MTV’s “Rock the Cradle.” The new reality show was based on nine MTV icon offspring performing before a panel of music industry heavyweights (most notably Belinda Carlisle of the Go-Go’s and Britney Spears’ manager Larry Rudolph) who were there to comment while viewers voted for their favorite contestant every week.

Crosby was officially crowned the winner on last Thursday night’s live season finale and followed with a charismatic performance of his original single, “Good Enough". His truly authentic qualities set him apart from his competitors and throughout the season, he was seen as an incredibly solid performer across the board.

Covering a wide range of artists is no easy feat, and Crosby really did rock the cradle each week, bringing it home in the end through his flawless musicianship and soulful vocals. It was clear that Crosby was the one artist on the show who stood up for what mattered most, his musical craft. He didn’t let the show’s dramatics get in his way. Although he was a good sport, this guy meant business—and it obviously was what worked in the end.

Prior to the show, Crosby had independently released his debut album, “We All Go Home,” as Crosby Loggins and the Light through the label J&R Adventures and went on tour playing over 100 dates. We caught up with Crosby to see if he’d shed some light on our burning Cradle questions.

LA’s the Place: From what age did you see you following in your famous father’s footsteps?

Crosby Loggins: I always sort of assumed I would. When I was seven, my dad bought me a little "Casio-Tone" keyboard, and I was positively hooked. I couldn’t put it down. I was performing original compositions in school talent shows by the following year, and later switched to guitar at 13.

LATP: When did you first hear about the show and what were your first thoughts?

CL: I first heard about the show in December. I was very skeptical and it took a lot of convincing for me to audition. I mean, reality TV isn’t what first comes to mind when you think of credible ways to get your music discovered. Ultimately, I realized that it was a great opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I should also mention that I did the show because several of the producers had more than just a reality TV resume – they had produced credible documentaries and independent projects. For example, George Moll did VH1’s "Behind the Music." Knowing and trusting this fact helped me make the leap of faith.

LATP: Had you met the other contestants from the show in the past?

CL: No. With the exception of Lucy Walsh (our parents were friends when we were tiny, but I hadn’t seen her since we were three or four – her stepfather is actually my godfather!)  I had never met any of the cast before.

LATP: Did you think you would win?

CL: No. I just wanted to do my best and gain what I could from the experience. I was convinced that Akeiba Burrell (M.C. Hammer’s daughter) would win when I first met her. She’s a wonderful singer and a great person.

LATP: How did you grow from this experience?

CL: This experience was really amazing, all BS aside. It pushed me beyond what I previously thought I could do on stage in a lot of ways, some obvious and some more personal. I have taken a tremendous amount away from this experience that will always be with me.

LATP: What are your future plans?

CL: My highest priority right now is just getting music out into the world.  My career means nothing without great music behind it, and I’m really excited about some of the material I’m currently sitting on.  From here it’s all about getting in sync with Jive and working to put out a great album as soon as possible.

  • What a fantastic win! No fancy costumes or dancers or special effects. Just a wholesome and genuine musician. His voice, instrumental talent and down-to-earth personality make the package complete. After listening to his music these past couple of years, it’s a true pleasure to see Crosby come in to his own. I’ll be waiting for that Jive release and, of course, the tour dates to come. Congrats, Crosby!

  • Crosby is an amazing talent, and his many fans admire him for his great talent, wonderful sense of humor and his awe inspiring authenticity and caring. The win couldn’t have gone to a nicer guy.
