I attended the private showing of Los Angeles designer Zachariah Bryant’s new spring line, at Em & Co. Boutique. To say that designer, Zachariah Bryant’s light and breezy persona is reflected in his line is the understatement of the year. The cool air of sophistication that Bryant gives off is infused in every aspect of the line. When I asked him what inspired the pieces he simply smiled and said cosmopolitan New York and funky downtown Australia. Now if you’re like me, you’re probably scratching your head right now, trying to figure out what that could possibly look like…well, in a word, it looks stunning! From the fresh shirtdresses to the hipster jumpers, the clothes speak to the playful and yet sophisticated side in all of us.

Zachariah Bryant, the Artist

Zachariah Bryant, a Los Angeles native, first developed his love of fashion and crafts by watching his grandmother, who owned a vintage clothing store. He discovered his love for vintage reconstruction. He left the city of angels for New York, where he learned at Parsons, and started to hone his craft. He also studied abroad in Australia for a while before making his way back home to LA with a clear vision in mind. After the experience of living abroad, Zachariah was inspired to launch a line of casual luxe classics. The result of which is the new spring line. With launch of his debut line, Zach was nominated for “Fresh Faces in Fashion and The New Garde ’08 by GenArt. His collection can now be found in specialty and department stores across the country including Fred Segal, Nordstrom, and Elements.

Gossip Girl Fashion!
When asking the manager of Em& CO Boutique what her favorite part of the line was, she said “It’s so fun, and you feel like a cast member on Gossip Girl, like your part of the upper westside elite.” One of my favorite pieces was the “hippie vest”. This is every fashionista and fashionista-in-training’s dream. It is a dramatically long vest, with exaggerated armholes. The slouchy material clings to the body and yet drapes away at the bottom allowing for room and comfort as well as maintaining an upscale quality. The best part of it is the versatility! You can wear it with skirts or shorts or even jeans. You can wear it with a belt or let it hang open! Anyway you wear it, you look great! It even comes with a vintage giant safety pin, to give you even more possibilities.  The cohesiveness of all of the pieces is that with the slightest of accessory changes you can go effortlessly from day to night in the same outfit.

Spring Colors are Electric
The range of colors from bright neon greens and cobalt blues to stark black and white, make the outfits that much more chic. The spring line represents the very best in the clashing of comfort and style. The silk and terry cloth “Downtown Hoodie” has the look of a boxer’s robe on fight night and the panther silk feel of high-fashion.  From the vibrant indigo “Cumber Short” with cobalt piping, to the wheat, green, and yellow “Mary had a little lamb” dress the colors reflect the season and add an extra pop to your wardrobe.
Local Designers Welcome
You can find the Zachariah Bryant line at Em & Co Boutique in West Hollywood. The store itself is indicative of the funky fresh sophistication. It carries 20 different designers and prides itself on displaying local talent. On the wall hangs cool spray paint art that echoes of pop culture and individualism. When I asked Valia, a part time sales clerk and FIDM student, what she thought of the line, she gushed and stated “As fashion student I am inspired by the line and would like to buy everything!” I agree. As a fashionista-in-training, I am also inspired and I encourage all us ladies to go out and buy Zachariah Bryant’s line. The prices range from about $95 to $325. The sizes range from 0-12, so we all can wear them!
