Nominees and Honorees Announced for the 19th Annual GLAAD Media Awards

The nominees and honorees for the 19th Annual GLAAD (The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Awards were announced on Sunday, January 20, 2008 in Park City, Utah.
GLAAD Media Awards

The ceremonies will be held coast-to-coast; at the Marriott Marquis in New York on March 17, 2008; at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in South Florida on April 12, 2008; at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on April 26, 2008; and at the San Francisco Marriott in San Francisco on May 10, 2008. Broadcast dates have yet to be announced.
Special Honorees who have used their words, art and music to advocate on behalf of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community  will be announced at each ceremony.

In South Florida:

David Mixner (Pioneer Award)
GLAAD President Neil G. Giuliano spoke highly of the nominees, admitting, “This year’s extraordinary nominees exemplify the important strides we have made as a community toward creating a truly inclusive society. GLAAD’s persistent, effective efforts to educate media professionals continue to yield a growing body of stories about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people that are more compelling, more honest, and more real than ever before.  We are proud to recognize all of this year’s GLAAD Media Awards nominees.”
GLAAD works hard to eliminate forms of discrimination that are based on sexual orientation and gender identity and to eliminate homophobia, all by promoting and ensuring accurate, fair and inclusive representation of people and events through the media.
