Katharine McPhee is one of Hollywood?s newest It girls, with the hit single Over It? and the #5 ranking in Stuff Magazine’s Top 100 Sexiest Female Celebrities". Her charming personality and her natural beauty combine to showcase her larger-than-life star presence and Big Sexy Hair is making sure everyone in Los Angeles knows it. Throughout April, you can check out a jumbotron on Sunset Boulevard featuring a thirty second spot with behind the scenes footage of the gorgeous McPhee. The 30-second spot features behind-the-scenes footage of McPhee from her second Sexy Hair photo shoot.
This Monday, April 9th, The Lounge in The Standard Hotel on Sunset hosted a party celebrating the launch of the Sexy Hair jumbotron. Hors d’oeuvres and an open bar fueled the party while the attendance of the innovative Jim Morrison, CEO of Big Sexy Hair, and star Katharine McPhee enthralled the attendees.
LATP’s Jane Emery spoke with Jim Morrison to find out more.
Jane Emery: Hi Jim.What a great business move snagging the beautiful Katharine McPhee to represent your company. What made you decide on Katharine?
Jim Morrison: When we saw Katharine a year ago on American Idol, there were actually about 9 or 10 contestants left. We saw this really vibrant, energetic, sexy, sophisticated, fun, young lady and we really felt that she embodied all of the things that we believed about Sexy Hair. We approached her right before the final night and right after the show finale. We ended up coming to an agreement for her to be our spokesperson for the next two years.
JE: Wow. So you grabbed her while the grabbing was good?
Jim: We grabbed her up. We grabbed her and she let us, so it was really good.
JE: Excellent! So you have a big ad campaign going now?
Jim: We have done consumer advertising for the last twelve months.? Katharine is in magazines like Cosmo, Vogue, Teen Vogue, and Allure, and it?s been really positive for the company. It’s really elevated the image of sexy hair.
JE: You’ve really gotten that name out there too – synonymous with Katharine McPhee.
Jim: And it’s a great LA thing. We love the fact that she’s from Sherman Oaks. We love the fact that she actually was a client of Michael O’Rourke, the founder of Sexy Hair and the founder of the salon chain Carlton Hair International. She and her mom had been Carlton clients for the past 6 or 7 years.
JE: It was meant to be.?
Jim: It was destiny.?
JE: So now your whole billboard beautifies Sunset Boulevard!
Jim: We have her up on the jumbotron on Sunset for the month of April. We’re really thrilled and we love being apart of what’s happening here in Los Angeles. We’re glad Katharine is part of it too.
JE: Fantastic.? So where is the company based out of?
Jim: We’re in Chatsworth which is out in the Valley. We’re still LA. Michael who’s the founder lives in Santa Monica and I live in Malibu. We’re LA People.
JE: Is there anything else?
Jim: Just expect great things from Sexy Hair. We’re going to keep pushing the envelope. We’ve been the hottest company in the professional salon industry for the past five or six years and we think that’s going to continue.

Katharine McPhee: Since I’m the face of Sexy Hair, they’re going to run me on this big Jumbotron; they’ve gotten an advertisement spot that runs every 23 minutes, advertising Sexy Hair. Me! On the big screen advertising Sexy Hair, so it’s really exciting. So, we’re all here just celebrating me. Me on a big screen! It’s very exciting and it’s great to have LA country see their hometown girl on the big jumbotron on Sunset Blvd.
JE: Do you have any thoughts you’d like to share on American Idol and the contestants this year?
KM: I’ve met them, the’re very nice kids, I wish them well. I think it’s a very interesting year…Go Sanjaya! I think he’s awesome! I love it, I think it’s great. Takes the seriousness out of it, you know?
JE: Are you doing anything with American Idol at the moment?
KM: I’m leaving on Thursday to go perform on Canadian Idol,which should be interesting because a lot of people didn’t know that it existed. I’m going?to be singing a number of songs off my record, so that will be fun.
Katharine also shared that she was currently involved in several film projects. In the meantime, you can see her on the Jumbotron on Sunset Blvd for Sexy Hair! It is located a mile west of Crescent Heights, on the Southside of the street in West Hollywood.
