The Blue Man Group Moves Into Universal Studios In Orlando, Florida

You’ve surely heard of or seen the Blue Man Group before.  Completely covered in blue makeup, they’re hard to miss, but now they have a new home to entertain audiences.  Soon to be based in Orlando, Florida, the Blue Man Group will perform from Universal Studio’s re-designed 1,000 seat Sound Stage 18.

Blue Man Group, Universal Studios Florida

Accessible from both Universal City Walk and Universal Studios theme park, this theatre includes stunning exterior and interior features specially designed for the Blue Man experience.   One such feature involves 30-feet tall Blue Men, which happens to be the largest Blue Man images ever created, marking the entrance to the new theatre.  These images can be seen nearly everywhere inside Universal’s City Walk.

Once inside the theater, the set design has been erected based on the original New York production, creating an environment for each Blue Man character to connect with the audience in a visceral way.

In addition, the Blue Man Group Band, a live presence in all Blue Man Group shows, will hover above the stage in two loft-like boxes.  The lofts are connected to the rest of the space with a series of large pipes that supplement the theatre’s audio system, enabling the band’s sound to reach the audience in a unique way.

Adding to the total sensory experience, video is also incorporated into the show.  Audiovisual veterans at Scharff-Weisberg designed the video system used at the new theatre, which utilizes the entire set as a projection surface.  Their concepts enable the Blue Man Group to completely envelope their audience in the experience.  The new technology used by the Blue Man Group will also allow the video elements of the show to be integrated with and controlled by the lighting system.

The spacious theatre includes orchestra seating throughout, while maintaining a intimate setting providing the audience with a close to the action feel.  For those who truly want to be up close and personal, and who don’t mind being splashed with blue paint, the “poncho” section has been created to provide a more hands on experience for enthusiastic guests.

Opening June 7, 2007, work on the Blue Man Group’s new theatre is still in the works as a concession, retail and event space is being added to the venue.  While tickets for the new show are on sale now, passes into the theme park are not required in order to enjoy The Blue Man experience.

  • The 2007 October 13th, 5pm show was AWESOME! I didn’t quite realize what we were in for (as we were attending for our father’s birthday celebration)… but we ALL enjoyed it!
I, being a percussionist myself, literally fell in love with the acts/sounds/inovations and began thinking of other things to add to it. Therefore, what if someone wanted to share ideas with these ‘blue men’, is there a website/blue.man.blog available?
