Date for the Cure is a nonprofit organization created by Rod Luck and Jerry Wayne a 17-year cancer survivor to help raise funds for important breast cancer programs. The event took place on Friday February 16, 2013 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel and was hosted by actor and comedian Kevin Nealon.

The Gala also worked closely with Charity Buzz and the Miss Universe Organization to educate guests on breast cancer treatment and research. The night also allowed a few lucky guests to win dates with reigning Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, reigning Miss USA Nana Meriwether and a few others all for the good cause.

The Gala was a night of laughter, love and entertainment all for a worthy cause. Kevin Nealon opened the night with some good jokes helping the crowd settle in, then guests were serenated by American Idol Alumni Paul McDonald.

After hearing the talented musician, guests were treated to a fashion show by A. Ché. The fashion show featured their modern day swimwear collection designed for natural women and included Miss California USA Mabelynn Capeluj, Miss California Teen USA Cassidy Wolf and Miss District of Columbia Allyn Rose. After the fashion show was over Paul Barris and Sharna Burgess from Dancing with the Stars presented guests with a thrilling dance performance.

The excitement did not end there; guests were then treated to one final performance. X-Factor’s Season 1 runner up Josh Krajcik performed for over 30 minutes. Josh first started off by performing his rendition of Etta James’ “At Last” and closed the night with a cover of “Wild Horses” by The Rolling Stones.

The night was filled with many surprises that included delicious cocktails courtesy of Chambord Vodka and dinner that complimented the astounding entertainment. Held in the Sheraton’s Grand Ballroom the venue hosted about 350 people that included Nikki Reed from the Twilight Saga, Actors Edwin and Aldis Hodge, Kimberly Caldwel, Chuy Bravo from late night hit show Chelsea Lately, Torrance Coombs, Cheryl Burke from Dancing with the Stars, reigning Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, reigning Miss USA Nana Meriwether, reigning Miss California USA Mabelynn Capeluj, reigning Miss California Teen USA Cassidy Wolf, reigning Miss District of Columbia Allyn Rose, Miss South Carolina USA 2011 Courtney Hope Turner, Miss Teen Hawaii Melissa Paulino, Miss USA 2011 Alyssa Campanella, Miss USA 2009 Kristen Dalton, Miss USA 2004 Shandi Fennessey, Miss Teen USA 2003 Tami Farrell and Miss Vietnam Deanna Nguyen.

Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, Miss USA Nana Meriwether, Miss California USA Mabelynn Capeluj and a few others helped bring awareness to Date for the Cure Gala by auctioning off a date to help raise money for the cause. Guests also participated in on a silent auction that helping bring in more funds for breast cancer research and treatments.
