Cash for your car

Santa Monica is offering Valentine’s Day events for singles and couples with HurryDate speed dating event and a day of couples’ skating at ICE at Santa Monica. No matter your relationship status or what your Facebook profile may tell people, the beachside town can keep you busy on Mon., Feb. 14.

In Downtown Santa Monica on the Third Street Promenade, BoConcept (customized furniture designer) and HurryDate have teamed up to provide single ladies and gentleman with the world’s longest red couch. On the furniture will be a huge red sofa speed dating event, perfect for anyone without a Valentine and ready for a fun evening outdoors.

The 213-foot leather couch is red to match the holiday and weighs more than 2.17 tons, giving enough room for 150 speed daters to try and make a match. These daters better be ready for some quick chats. They will each be able to meet with 10-15 people in three-minute increments, and if a love connection is made, they can venture to the couples’ area at ICE for an after party. The red sofa will be on display in Santa Monica for photo opportunities throughout the day, before the event.

Participants must fall in the age range of 30-43, and the HurryDate event begins at 6 p.m., costing $35. The couch will be on the Third Street Promenade between Santa Monica Blvd. and Arizona Ave. HurryDate is the first company that has joined the online dating world with live events, pairing perfect matches in cyberspace and in person. The Downtown Santa Monica premiere outdoor ice skating rink is giving a special Valentine’s Day rate, allowing couples to skate for $10, a promotion the company is calling “Two Hearts Skate as One.” The price includes admission and skate rental, normally costing $20. This year, Valentine’s Day is also the rink’s last open day for the 2010-2011 season, and couples can play on the ice from 12 p.m. – 10 p.m.

To make the evening time more romantic, ICE is hosting a live, acoustic performance by singer/songwriter Mark Russell, who will be performing classic love songs for the sweethearts. Russell has toured with the likes of Avril Lavigne, The Veronicas and Hanson. Those in attendance can also enjoy food and drink at ICE. This year, the 8,000-square foot skating rink was decorated into a floral oasis by Herbal Essences and Portraits of Hope, and this is the last evening to see the flowered ice.

ICE is located at 1324 5th St. in Santa Monica and for more information, visit icesantamonica.com.
