Industry insiders, filmmakers, media, and film supporters gathered at The Harmony Gold Theater in Hollywood on Wednesday night as The Last Shop on Walnut made its Los Angeles premiere, marking another milestone for the independent drama that continues to build momentum with audiences.

The evening brought together the film’s cast, creative team, and special guests for a red carpet celebration, an advance screening, and a lively post-screening discussion that underscored the emotional impact of the film.

Leading the festivities were stars Peter Lawson Jones (A Man Called Otto), Emmy Award nominee Kym Whitley, and Donald Webber Jr. (Hamilton, Severance), along with writer-director Jason L. Richardson, producers, cast members, and supporters of the project.

Before the screening, Whitley welcomed the audience with heartfelt remarks, reflecting on her longtime friendship and creative partnership with producer and co-star Peter Lawson Jones. Her introduction set the tone for an evening centered on connection, community, and storytelling.

Written and directed by Richardson, The Last Shop on Walnut tells the story of Marvin Statler, a reclusive lamp shop owner who has spent fifteen years living above his struggling business. As financial pressures mount, gentrification reshapes the neighborhood around him, and an unexpected family member reenters his life, Marvin is forced to confront old wounds and decide whether he is ready to reconnect with the world he has kept at a distance.

Jones delivers the film’s central performance as Marvin Statler, joined by Whitley as Darlene and Webber as Michael. The ensemble cast also includes Mario Beverly, Shannon Metelko, Phil Elam, Brian Fronk, Alexis Prewitt, Jacki Hydock, Madison Ledyard-King, and Nicole Yost.

Following the screening, Jones, Webber, and Richardson participated in a Q&A session that gave audiences a deeper look into the film’s themes of family, forgiveness, community, and second chances. The conversation highlighted the personal and universal elements that have helped the film resonate with viewers.

What stood out throughout the evening was the audience’s response. The film’s exploration of grief, reconciliation, and the changing character of American neighborhoods drew visible emotional reactions, with moments of laughter, reflection, and heartfelt silence filling the theater.

“With an impressive entertainment media presence and the large turnout that filled the auditorium and responded with rapt attention to Last Shop, the Harmony Gold Preview House was clearly the place to be in Hollywood on Wednesday evening,” said producer and star Peter Lawson Jones. “I was personally overcome with emotion to witness just how enthusiastically the film was embraced by those who attended our Los Angeles premiere.”

Writer-director Jason L. Richardson echoed that sentiment.

“It was an honor and privilege to premiere The Last Shop on Walnut in L.A. at the Harmony Gold Preview House,” Richardson said. “Experiencing the laughs, the sniffles and the gasps together with an audience along with our cast and crew is an experience I’ll never forget. I’m truly grateful to the audience for attending on such a special night for the film.”

Produced by Jason L. Richardson, Peter Lawson Jones, and Madison Ledyard-King, The Last Shop on Walnut continues its festival and theatrical rollout following a warmly received Ohio premiere. Judging by the reaction inside the Harmony Gold Theater, the film’s journey is only gaining momentum as it reaches new audiences.
