Hermosa Beach already has the sand, the pier, the sunsets and the cold drinks. Now it has another very good reason to stay on the Strand when hunger hits.
Award-winning Los Angeles fast-casual concept Chicas Tacos has opened its newest location inside The Deck, the longtime beachfront hangout just steps from the Hermosa Beach Pier. The new location officially opened August 4, bringing the brand’s “A Better Taco” philosophy to one of the South Bay’s most quintessential beach settings.
It is a pairing that makes almost suspiciously good sense: Mexican food, cold beer, ocean air and a front-row seat to the Pacific.
Pull up a beach!
Known for fresh, high-quality, never-frozen ingredients, Chicas Tacos has built its reputation around a menu that takes familiar Mexican favorites seriously without making them overly complicated.
“I am thrilled to open Chicas Tacos inside The Deck in Hermosa Beach,” says founder Chris Blanchard. “We’re excited to bring our style of Mexican food to our friends and neighbors in the South Bay.”
And this location is doing more than simply transplanting the Chicas taco menu to the beach.
“Along with our popular classic tacos we’ll be introducing some plant-based options, our children’s favorite bean & cheese burritos, bowls and breakfast items to our beloved beach town,” Blanchard adds.
What’s on the Hermosa Beach Menu
Chicas Tacos Hermosa Beach
The taco lineup covers plenty of territory, with Carne Asada, Chicken, Pork, Shrimp and Chicas’ award-winning Crispy Plant-Based taco, priced from $4.99 to $5.49.
Those looking for something more substantial can go with a burrito or bowl for $10.98, while the bean-and-cheese burrito adds a simple, kid-friendly option to the mix.
Weekends bring breakfast into the equation, which feels particularly appropriate for a restaurant sitting on the Strand. Specials include the Steak & Eggs Taco and Breakfast Burrito, ranging from $5.29 to $10.98.
The sides are not an afterthought, either. Choices range from Chips & Salsa and Guacamole to Ceviche and Plant-Based Queso, priced between $2.49 and $15.
And then there are the drinks.
Chicas serves three nonalcoholic house beverages for $3.99 each: Cucumber Lime Mint, Hibiscus Pineapple and Coconut Cream Horchata. The cucumber-lime-mint combination practically sounds designed for a hot afternoon on the Strand, while the Coconut Cream Horchata brings the richer end of the spectrum.
Tacos Meet the Pacific
Part of the appeal of the new Chicas location is where diners will be eating all of this.
The Deck, located at 1272 The Strand, is something of a South Bay institution. Proudly known as the original neighborhood dive bar, it has spent decades as the kind of place where locals meet friends, catch a game, order an ice-cold drink and look out at the Pacific.
It isn’t trying to manufacture a beach-town atmosphere. It already has one.
Just steps from the Hermosa Beach Pier, The Deck combines its laid-back personality with sweeping ocean views and one of those locations that makes lingering over another drink seem entirely reasonable.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Chicas Tacos to bring fresh, delicious tacos to The Deck,” the venue said of the partnership. “It’s the perfect combination—a great taco, a cold beer or glass of wine, especially with an unbeatable view right on the beach. The Deck remains one of the best beachfront destinations, and this partnership simply makes the experience even better for our guests.”
Hard to argue with that formula.
A Los Angeles Taco Story That Started Downtown
Chicas Tacos dates back to 2016, when the concept launched in Downtown Los Angeles.
It was founded by marketing veteran Chris Blanchard, James Beard Award-nominated Chef Eduardo Ruiz, and BLVD Hospitality founders Jon Blanchard and Nicolo Rusconi.
The food grew out of the founders’ collective experiences with Mexican cooking and the flavors they had known from their youth through adulthood. Rather than treating fast-casual Mexican food as an excuse to cut corners, Chicas built its identity around fresh ingredients, bold but balanced flavors and an elevated approach to recognizable dishes.
That philosophy helped the company become part of a broader shift in Los Angeles fast-casual dining: food can be quick and approachable without tasting mass-produced.
Ten years after opening its first location, Chicas is bringing that philosophy somewhere decidedly more barefoot.
