On Sunday, July 26, 2026, the Los Angeles Mission will once again demonstrate that caring for people often means caring for the animals they love. From 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Mission’s parking lot at 316 Winston Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013, will transform into a one-stop wellness center for pets belonging to unhoused and low-income individuals, providing essential veterinary care, supplies, education, and support completely free of charge.
The annual Pet Wellness Day recognizes a simple but often overlooked reality: for many people experiencing homelessness, a pet is far more than a companion. It is family, emotional support, protection, and unconditional love. Yet routine veterinary care, vaccinations, flea treatment, food, and basic pet supplies are often financially out of reach.
By bringing together leading animal welfare organizations, veterinary professionals, volunteers, and community partners, the Los Angeles Mission is helping ensure that these beloved companions receive the care they deserve while giving their owners access to valuable resources that can make an immediate difference.
A Community Effort to Care for Pets
Several respected organizations will be on-site providing a wide range of free services throughout the morning.
spcaLA will administer free Bordetella, Rabies, and DHPP vaccines for dogs, along with FVRCP-Rabies combination vaccines for cats. The organization will also provide topical flea treatment for both dogs and cats, helping prevent common health issues that can quickly become serious without treatment.
Downtown Dog Rescue will operate its mobile veterinary clinic, offering medical consultations and wellness evaluations for pets in need of professional care.
Caravita Foundation and WUFAW will provide education about the importance of spaying and neutering, while also offering voucher assistance to help make those procedures more accessible.
Best Friends Animal Society will distribute pet food and essential supplies, helping owners continue caring for their animals long after the event concludes.
For individuals entering recovery programs, Dogs Matter will offer fostering resources designed to ensure pets have a safe place to stay while their owners focus on treatment and rebuilding their lives.

More Than Veterinary Care
One of the biggest challenges facing individuals experiencing homelessness is that many shelters do not permit pets. As a result, countless people are forced to make an impossible decision: accept shelter without the animal they love or remain on the streets together.
Pet Wellness Day helps ease that burden by providing free medical care, food, supplies, educational resources, and connections to organizations that can continue offering assistance long after the event ends.
