Sunday Brunch Finds Its Coastal Muse at A Crystal Cove in Newport Beach

A Crystal Cove in Newport Beach

Brunch in Newport Beach has a new scene-stealer, and it’s found at A Crystal Cove, the elegant yet approachable concept from River Jetty Restaurant Group. Known for its polished coastal design and elevated comfort cuisine, the restaurant’s new Sunday brunch transforms the weekend ritual into something truly special. Between the debut of its Custom Mimosa Cart, live music, and half-off bottles of champagne all weekend long, this is the kind of place where guests linger long after the last sip.

The restaurant’s aesthetic sets the mood before the first bite arrives. Soft sunlight filters through wide windows, glinting off glassware and sea-toned accents. A local singer performs smooth, bluesy renditions of Maroon 5, Frank Sinatra, and Daniel Caesar, giving the space a soulful energy that feels distinctly Newport. The coastal-chic decor, with its artful bar and curated details, ties it all together effortlessly.

We began our meal with the Whipped Feta, a vibrant starter that’s as beautiful as it is flavorful. Served with blistered heirloom tomatoes, saffron honey, fresh basil, and a sprinkle of sumac, the dish balances creamy and bright, earthy and sweet. The house-made pita adds the perfect warm, chewy contrast, making it one of those small plates you can’t stop reaching for.

For entrées, my companion chose “A” Signature Skirt Steak + Eggs, a dish that’s pure brunch indulgence. The steak is tender and boldly seasoned, paired with two perfectly fried eggs and duck fat hash browns that are crisp on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth inside. A drizzle of ranchero sauce ties it together with a hint of spice.

I went for the Brioche French Toast, and it was as decadent as it sounds. The thick slices are custardy and golden, layered with strawberry compote, mascarpone cream, and crème anglaise, then topped with fresh berries. To balance the sweetness, I added a side of maple bacon—crisp, smoky, and just the right touch of savory. It’s easily shareable, though you may not want to share.

The Traveler and A Sidecar showcase A Crystal Cove’s refined approach to cocktails, blending classic elegance with creative flavor profiles that pair perfectly with the restaurant’s coastal brunch menu.

Brunch here wouldn’t be complete without a round (or two) of cocktails. We sampled three from the bar’s inventive menu: The Traveler, The J.O. Margarita, and A Sidecar. The J.O. Margarita impresses with its layered heat, combining La Adelita Tequila, Ancho Reyes Chili, fresh lime juice, and Cointreau, finished with a house-made jalapeño agave that adds both sweetness and fire. The Sidecar, made with Rémy Martin 1738, Cointreau, and fresh lemon juice, offers classic elegance with a touch of brightness from a whisper of simple syrup. My favorite was The Traveler, a beautifully balanced cocktail made with Coding Reposado, RJRG Private Barrel, Pama Pomegranate Liqueur, fresh lemon juice, Peychaud’s bitters, and a hint of rosemary foam. The presentation alone makes it photo-worthy, but the smooth, aromatic finish makes it unforgettable.

Of course, I couldn’t resist trying a mimosa from the Custom Mimosa Cart, where guests can personalize their bubbly with a choice of juices, garnishes, and premium champagnes. It’s an experience in itself and one that adds a playful, interactive touch to the refined atmosphere.
