Located just a short walk from the Pantages Theatre and nestled along Sunset Boulevard, La Nena Cantina offers a breezy, elevated experience in coastal Mexican cuisine. The Hollywood location features a sunlit interior, woven pendant lighting, light-wood finishes, and a warm neutral palette. The result is a refined coastal aesthetic that feels modern and relaxed, with subtle Tulum-inspired design touches. It’s the kind of place where cocktails are crisp, guacamole is made tableside, and every bite tastes like summer.

The patio at La Nena Cantina offers a breezy, sunlit escape perfect for afternoon cocktails or evening bites.
The atmosphere is fresh and welcoming, making it a go-to spot for pre-show bites, weekend brunch, or spontaneous evening drinks with friends. The Hollywood space stays true to the brand’s commitment to high-quality ingredients and bold Mexican flavors.

La Nena Cantina’s summer mocktails can be customized with tequila or mezcal for a refreshing twist.
This summer’s drink menu offers something for everyone. Mocktails can be upgraded with tequila or mezcal, giving guests flexible options. I tried the Watermelon Mojito and the Tamarind Refresher, both with tequila. Each drink was vibrant, well-balanced, and perfect for enjoying on the patio.
My personal favorite was the Adelita, made with 1800 Tequila, pineapple, cucumber, and fresh lime. It was refreshing, herbaceous, and not overly sweet—like sipping golden hour in a glass.
The meal began with complimentary chips and two salsas: a smoky salsa roja and a bright tomatillo green. Soon after, we were treated to guacamole made fresh at our table with avocado, tomato, onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and lime. It set the tone for what turned out to be a standout meal.

The Tiradito de Hamachi is a standout starter with yellowtail, avocado, jalapeño, and citrus-soy dressing.
The Tiradito de Hamachi was a highlight. Delicate yellowtail slices were dressed with lime juice, olive oil, soy sauce, and chili paste, then topped with avocado and jalapeño. For an extra burst of flavor, try each bite with the jalapeño and chili paste. It’s served with crackers and makes an excellent starter to share.

Each taco in the Malibu trio offers something different, but the zarandeado is a flavor standout.
At La Nena Cantina, everything is made in-house—from the tortillas to the micheladas. That attention to detail comes through in every dish.We shared the Tacos Malibu, which included a trio of tacos: baja-style fish, grilled shrimp, and zarandeado. Served with rice and beans, each taco brought something unique to the plate. The zarandeado was the clear favorite for its bold, smoky flavor.

The Mango Salad brings bright flavors and texture, finished with a tangy passion fruit dressing.
We also tried the Fajitas Mixtas, a sizzling plate of beef tenderloin, grilled chicken, peppers, onions, and tomatoes, served alongside Spanish rice and pinto beans. For something lighter, the Mango Salad offered a refreshing mix of greens, mango, grapes, caramelized walnuts, and goat cheese in a passion fruit dressing. Guests can also add protein such as shrimp, salmon, or chicken to make it a full meal.

From spongey tres leches to molten cajeta churros, this flight is small in size but big on flavor.
Dessert arrived as a mini sampler of house favorites. A slice of tres leches cake, churros filled with cajeta, and a smooth flan were perfect for sharing, though you may not want to.
