Big Bear Offers Housing and Support for L.A. Wildfire Evacuees

Big Bear offers support for LA fire evacuees

In response to the recent wildfires in Los Angeles County, Big Bear is extending a helping hand to those who have been displaced or impacted. The community has launched a comprehensive support initiative that includes deeply discounted lodging, dining assistance, and free temporary housing through a partnership with Airbnb.org.

Temporary Housing Assistance for Evacuees

Big Bear has stepped up as a certified evacuation housing center as part of Airbnb.org’s free emergency housing assistance program. This program connects displaced individuals with free, temporary accommodations provided by generous Airbnb hosts. With over 1,000 homes available in Big Bear Valley, evacuees can find refuge in a serene mountain setting.

The housing assistance program is facilitated in partnership with 211 LA, which helps evacuees access free stays through Airbnb.org. Stays are completely covered by Airbnb.org and participating hosts, ensuring no cost to those in need. More information about this service is available at 211la.org.

Discounted Lodging and Dining Support

In addition to the Airbnb.org program, Big Bear’s lodging community is offering deeply discounted accommodations for wildfire evacuees and those who have lost their homes. This subsidized lodging is designed to provide comfort and stability during this challenging time. Evacuees can learn more about discounted lodging options at BigBear.com.

Big Bear Mountain Resort is also pitching in by offering dining support. Evacuees staying in Big Bear can receive four $25 dining vouchers—totaling $100—that can be redeemed at any on-site eatery at Snow Summit or Bear Mountain. Vouchers are available at the Big Bear Visitor Center, located at 40824 Big Bear Blvd., and evacuees must show proof of their lodging assistance reservation to collect them.

A Community Effort to Support Those in Need

The Big Bear community is no stranger to the devastation caused by wildfires. Having faced the Line Fire in September, residents and local officials are empathetic to the struggles faced by those displaced. The community has come together to offer not only physical relief but also emotional solace.

“In the past, during incidents like the Line Fire, these communities extended their support to us by offering discounted lodging for evacuees,” said Travis Scott, CEO of Visit Big Bear. “Now, it’s our chance to reciprocate that generosity and demonstrate our solidarity as a community.”

Visit Big Bear is collaborating with city officials, Visit California, and other destination organizations to raise awareness about its lodging assistance program. The serene mountain environment of Big Bear provides a comforting escape for evacuees during such disheartening times.
