3 Tips For Decorating Your Home Outside Of The Cookie Cutter Mold

Decorating Your Home

With so many new homes being built around the country and a strong segment of influencers sharing what they have their homes looking like, many people have become pigeon-holed into thinking that their home needs to be designed and decorated in a very particular way. And while this style may suit some, if you’re looking for a way to branch out from this “cookie cutter” mold, even with a “cookie cutter” home, there are all kinds of ways that you can accomplish this.

To help you see how this can be done, here are three tips for decorating your home outside of the “cookie cutter” mold.

Use Vintage And Antique Items

One way that you can make your home feel more unique is to use vintage or antique items to decorate your space. Oftentimes, home decor that you find at a home good store will be sold all over the world for people to use in their home. And while they might appeal to a large number of people, they will also be used in a large number of homes. When this happens, the decor in these homes can start to feel the same.

On the other hand, if you choose to shop at vintage or antique stores and get more unique items there, like a vintage mirror or dishes that were made more than just a few years ago, these items likely won’t be in circulation anymore and will help your home standout among the crowd.

DIY Your Own Feature Upgrades

Even in a home that’s designed with just the basics from a new construction, you can still choose to do your own upgrades to certain features that will give the space a more unique look. And if you do these upgrades yourself, you can save a lot of money from having to pay a contractor, too.

Simple yet effective feature upgrades that you may want to try could include adding larger baseboards or a chair rail, expanding around a fireplace, replacing cabinet handles and pulls, and so much more.

Don’t Forget About The Exterior

In most new subdivisions, the exterior of the homes are going to look just as identical as the interior of the homes. So while you might want to be sure that your home feels different and unique to you on the inside, you won’t want to forget about the outside either.

Depending on your neighborhood, your hands might be tied for things like the color of your home. But in many cases, you can add things like shutters to your windows, decorate your front porch or walk to your heart’s content, and make changes with the landscaping to give your space a more unique feel.

If you want your “cookie cutter” home to really represent you, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you make some beautiful changes.
