Sylvia, a celebrated pastry chef with more than 25 years of culinary experience, has worked in high-end restaurants across LA, New York, Anguilla, and Washington D.C. Over the years, she has fine-tuned her ability to infuse flavors from various cultures into her creations. Sylvia’s desserts once graced the shelves of gourmet retailers like Dean & DeLuca, and now, she brings that same creativity and flair to Soul Grain. Her goal? To make granola exciting. “I don’t like wasting time or calories on anything that isn’t delicious,” she says. “I wanted Soul Grain to taste vibrant and reflect our rich culture as Black people. Granola doesn’t have to be boring.”
Sylvia’s journey into the culinary world started at a young age. After earning her cosmetology license at 16, she decided to pursue her true passion—food. She attended culinary school after graduating from Howard University with a degree in journalism, and the rest is history. Today, in addition to running Soul Grain, Sylvia owns a salon in the Twin Cities and balances life as a wife and mother of two.
On the other side of the Soul Grain equation is Liza, a licensed nutritionist with a background in nutrition and functional medicine. With over 20 years in the wellness industry, Liza is a powerhouse in her own right. Armed with a master’s degree in nutrition and certifications like the Dr. Amen Brain Health Coach certification, Liza focuses on how food impacts both physical health and mental well-being. She has a BA in psychology and has spent her career exploring the connection between what we eat and how we feel. “I’m excited to bring you this innovative granola,” Liza says. “I’ve always believed that food is medicine, and with Soul Grain, we’re showing how healthy food can be both nourishing and indulgent.”
Beyond her work with Soul Grain, Liza is also a mother of three and deeply committed to advocating for brain health and self-care. For her, Soul Grain is a personal and professional journey, merging her love for nutrition with her passion for bringing wellness to more people through food.
