Every conversation holds a world of meaning, but for millions grappling with hearing challenges, that world can feel distant. Traditional hearing aids, while effective for many, might not always suit everyone’s needs. Enter ClearCast, a groundbreaking assisted listening device (ADL) designed to transform the way we engage in conversations.

ClearCast is intended for those seeking a seamless, effective solution to enhance their auditory experiences. Unlike conventional hearing aids that merely amplify sound, ClearCast focuses on clarity. Its ingenious design sifts through ambient noise, isolating and enhancing the voices and dialogues one desires to hear. Whether at home, in a bustling restaurant, during sermons, or while engrossed in TV programs, ClearCast becomes a conduit for clearer connections in various environments.

The brainchild of Dr. Cherukuri, ClearCast was born out of the recognition that traditional aids often fall short in aiding conversation comprehension. Dr. Cherukuri, having aided over 300,000 individuals with affordable hearing aids, realized the limitations of amplification alone. Thus, ClearCast emerged – an FDA-registered marvel specifically engineered to bridge the gap between hearing and understanding.

We were fascinated and had some questions for Dr. Cherukuri about this novel device:

LA’s The Place: What inspired the development of ClearCast™, and how does it aim to address the prevalent issue of hearing loss in seniors?

Dr. Cherukuri: Having sold more than 300,000 hearing aids in my prior business, I came to a sad realization:

80% of people with hearing loss still don’t use hearing aids. This is for a variety of reasons. Hearing aids are meant to be worn all day, and they have tiny controls and batteries which are hard to manipulate. Some people feel a hearing aid makes them look older, and often amplify background noise in addition to what you want to hear. And they can still cost up to $5000.

What I learned after researching this further is that most of the time people need help hearing situationally, not all day and evening. I also realized that conversations with family members and listening to a television program account for the vast majority of the situations in which they would benefit from hearing assistance

Even the most expensive hearing aids have some very significant limitations and are not the right solution for these situations.  In fact, the FDA has a 2nd category called Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) specifically to help people in these situations.

I designed the ClearCast to solve these problems.

LATP: Could you explain the technology behind ClearCast™ that allows it to separate voices from background noise effectively?

Dr. Cherukuri: The secret to understanding conversations is the speech-to-noise ratio, which is the difference in loudness between the speech you want to hear and the distracting background sounds.

Most hearing aids make all sounds louder but do not necessarily improve the speech-to-noise ratio.

With the ClearCast, you have the option of placing the wireless MagicMic much closer to the conversations you want to hear so those are preferentially amplified instead of all the distracting noises that are amplfied with regular hearing aids.

LATP: Who might benefit the most from using ClearCast™, and in what situations can this device be particularly helpful?

Dr. Cherukuri: ClearCast is a really good option for people that

1.  They are not ready for a hearing aid that is designed to be worn all day and evening.
2.  They tried hearing aids but found that they didn’t help them hear what they want to hear clearly
3.  They typically need help in certain situations:  conversations and watching television
4.  For those people that a hearing aid is too hard to put on due to dexterity or other issues
5.  For those under the care of a caregiver

LATP: How does ClearCast™ differ from traditional hearing aids in terms of usability and functionality?

Dr. Cherukuri: ClearCast is much easier to wear – simply put it around your neck like your favorite set of headphones.  When you want to hear a conversation or television program, simply put the earbuds in your ear.  And when you don’t, simply take them out and they hang around your neck, just like Cheaters / reading glasses.

LATP: Could you elaborate on the ease of use of ClearCast™ for individuals with varying degrees of hearing loss?

Dr. Cherukuri: ClearCast has 6 different volume settings and 2 different microphone settings so even those patients with severe hearing loss will find the sound quality much better than with hearing aids.

LATP: What measures have been taken to ensure the quality and safety of this FDA-registered personal assistive listening device?

Dr. Cherukuri: ClearCast is an FDA registered category 2 medical device.  It is manufactured under strict standards reserved for medical devices.  It uses medical-grade hearing amplification componentry.  Every ClearCast is tested for electroacoustical accuracy to confirm it complies with accepted standards.

LATP: In what ways can ClearCast™ contribute to improving everyday communication and overall quality of life for those with hearing difficulties?

Dr. Cherukuri: For many people, hearing aids are simply not a good option – that is largely why 80% of people with hearing loss do not wear hearing aids.  This means that 80% of people are struggling to communicate with loved ones and are currently going without treatment.  ClearCast provides these people another option to fully participate on conversations and reap the quality of life benefits of being socially active.

LATP: Are there any additional accessories or features available with ClearCast™ that enhance its usability in different environments?

Dr. Cherukuri: The MagicMic has several different use cases:
1.  Place it at the center of a dinner table to better understand conversations when there are many people speaking
2.  Place it next to the TV speaker to hear the dialog directly into your ear at normal volumes
3.  For those with severe hearing loss, placing the MagicMic on the shirt or lapel of another individual allows for effortless one-on-one communication as the conversation goes directly into your ear.

LATP: For individuals considering ClearCast™, what advice or guidance would you provide to help them maximize its benefits?

Dr. Cherukuri: As with any FDA-registered hearing device, the brain will acclimate to the new sounds, so we always remind people that what they hear after several weeks of use will sound even more natural and clear than what they hear on the first day of using a ClearCast.

LATP: Would you like to share any plans for future enhancements or developments of ClearCast™ that might further revolutionize assistive listening devices?

Dr. Cherukuri: We have several products in the pipeline that will continue to bring more innovation to this FDA category of Assistive Listening Devices.

This revolutionary ALD doesn’t just make things louder; it discerns, isolates, and delivers crystal-clear conversations directly to the ears. A sleek neckband housing cutting-edge technology is all it takes to experience the magic. Slip it on, insert the earbuds, adjust the volume, and suddenly, the conversations you desire to engage in will sound as if whispered directly into your ear.
