4 Things You Should Keep in Your Off-Road Vehicle

Half the battle of off-roading is being prepared for whatever the wild terrain throws at you and your vehicle. Stay ready by keeping these things in your off-road vehicle on your next adventure.

Battery Jump Starter

If you’re like many off-roaders with a lot of add-ons and additional equipment for off-roading, overlanding, or camping, it’s a good idea to bring along a battery jump starter. Navigation equipment, extra lights, and radios can drain your battery. And if the battery is on its last legs, it can suddenly die and leave you stranded in the middle of your off-road adventure.

If that happens, you’ll be glad you brought a battery jump starter! You can bring jumper cables, but a battery jump starter is typically better for off-roaders, as it doesn’t require another vehicle to revive your dead battery.

Portable Tire Air Compressor

Too often, one of the most overlooked tools available to off-roaders is a simple portable tire air compressor. There are many reasons why you should buy a portable tire air compressor. But for off-roaders, it’s incredibly convenient for adjusting their vehicle’s tire pressure.

When off-roading, it’s best to slightly underinflate the tires to give them better traction and a more comfortable ride on rocky and bumpy surfaces. With a portable air compressor, off-roaders can easily adjust their tire pressure without worrying about finding the nearest public air pump.

Navigation Equipment

Another thing you should always keep in your off-road vehicle is navigation equipment. When adventuring across the untamed wilderness, it’s easy to lose your bearings and get lost in the middle of nowhere. However, for many off-roaders, getting a little lost is the appeal of the adventure!

While it’s fun to escape into the natural wonders of the terrain, you don’t want to become stranded and have no idea how to get home! For that reason, it’s wise to have a satellite GPS in the vehicle to help you find your way when necessary and a backup physical map of the area just in case there are any problems with the GPS.

Recovery Straps

Even the most durable off-road vehicles with the most skilled drivers get stuck now and again. It’s not a judgment on the vehicle of your driving skills—it’s something that eventually happens if you go off-roading long enough!

When it does happen, you’ll need some recovery gear to help you out, and recovery straps are great tools to have on board. Recovery straps increase your winching range and can help you escape mud, sand, or a steep incline. Always opt for heavy-duty straps rated to handle more than your vehicle’s weight to be safe.
