Common Misconceptions About Hemp Oil

With the gradual legalization and decriminalization of CBD (cannabidiol) across the country, CBD oil and hemp oil have become much more widely used. But along with that increased use comes a host of common misconceptions about hemp oil and CBD. In this article, we’ll address a few of the most common myths surrounding hemp oil.

Hemp Seed Oil Is the Same as CBD Oil

People who are new to CBD—and even those with some experience with it—often believe hemp seed oil and CBD oil are the same things. In truth, they are two distinct substances. Hemp seed oil and CBD oil both come from the same plant, hemp, but they’re derived from different parts of the plant. Hemp seed oil comes from the seeds of the plant and contains no active CBD and little to no THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Most cannabis and hemp enthusiasts are well familiar with the cannabinoid known as THC and also delta-8-thc. CBD oil, on the other hand, is made from the leaves and flowers of the plant and contains more CBD than hemp oil.

Hemp Oil Makes You High

One reason why someone might hesitate to use hemp oil is that they fear the substance will make them high. However, this is not the case. Hemp oil is non-psychoactive, so it will not give you the feelings of euphoria that psychoactive substances do. This is because THC is the chemical that causes that effect, and hemp oil typically contains no THC at all.

Hemp Oil Always Causes Failed Drug Tests

If you’re employed as a truck driver or in another position for which frequent drug tests are required, you may be concerned about whether hemp oil shows up on a drug test. For the same reason that hemp oil won’t make you high, it will almost never result in a failed drug test. Drug tests typically test for THC, which is present in marijuana. However, since hemp oil contains no THC, hemp oil won’t register on the test. Regardless, if you’re taking a drug test, it’s advisable that you confirm your hemp oil’s THC level is below 0.3%, as anything higher will register on a drug test, which could cause problems for you.

Having read about these common misconceptions about hemp oil, you hopefully now have a better understanding of what hemp oil is and what it does and does not do. Hemp oil and CBD oil do have many benefits, but if you’re interested in trying some out, always be sure to research your product before using it, and use it responsibly.
