A child’s bedroom is the perfect place for them to relax, have fun, and express themselves. This last part can prove difficult when kids have to share a bedroom with a sibling. But shared bedrooms don’t have to mean fights over close quarters. Siblings who share a bedroom can become two of the closest members of a family. To help honor this sibling dynamic, here are some décor ideas for shared children’s bedrooms your kids will love.

Mix Up the Bunk Bed

When anyone thinks of a shared bedroom, the first thing that comes to mind is a bunk bed. They’re a great way to capitalize on floorspace, after all. But there’s more than one way to go about this staple of shared children’s bedroom décor.

Add Storage

Most of us have childhood memories of shoving toys, books, and clothes under our beds when our parents told us it’s time to clean our room. Why not capitalize on this tendency by adding intentional storage under the bunk bed? Many bedframes come with built-in drawers you can divide between the two kids. Otherwise, adding a few bins will help keep clutter down.

L-Shaped Bunk beds

Nowadays, bunk beds have expanded from the classic double-decker look. Now, there are L-shaped bunk beds with the bottom bunk facing one way and the top bunk running perpendicular. There are a few key benefits to this, namely added space for storage. This design also fits certain bedroom shapes better than the traditional beds.

Loft Beds

Have two kids fighting over who gets the top bunk? Why not let them both have it? Loft beds are essentially a bunk bed without a bottom bunk. These are popular in dormitories because the space underneath can fit a desk or even a small sitting area. If space is limited, this is a good way to maximize floor space and give each kid their own little nook to enjoy.

Split-Up Storage

One of the most common fights for kids who share a room is the issue of storage. These are the sorts of fights with comments like, “That’s my side of the closet” or “Why does he always leave his stuff on my side?” The best way to avoid these fights altogether is to split up the storage as much as possible. This includes adding separate dressers, bins, and trunks on both sides and adding a divider between the two sides of the closet. Labeling the storage will make things extra clear. To further enhance these personal nooks, consider exploring  collection of gaming desks, which are designed to fit perfectly into smaller spaces while providing ample room for gaming setups. These desks are functional and come in various styles that match the room’s decor and each child’s personality. Incorporating it under a loft bed can create a dedicated space for study and play, ensuring that the room meets all the needs of its young occupants.

Highlight Both Personalities

Even though it’s important for the kids to be united, it’s also important they’re both given a chance for their own interests and personality to be displayed. For example, let’s say your kids want an animal-themed room. You can let both kids choose their favorite animals to be featured. Or, you might consider adding a chalkboard wall. This will let both kids add to their environment whenever they want, and let their individuality shine.
