Music is a wonderful addition to a swimming session, whether you’re at the pool to practice your skills or simply for fun. There are many different ways to enjoy your favourite songs while you swim a few laps. Let’s take a look at how you can listen to music while at the pool.

  • Headphones

The best thing about waterproof headphones is that you get to enjoy your music discreetly, intensely, and clearly, with the excellent sound quality you enjoy on land! You might want to invest in earbuds for lap swimming, which are ideal for swimmers as you don’t have to remove them when you get into the water. These earphones are connected to a sound system and fit snugly in your ears. As you do your laps, you don’t have to worry about them falling off.

  • MP3 Player

An iPod or another MP3 player works in a similar way to an ordinary stereo. It requires a headphone jack to plug into speakers, and a micro-USB to sync with a computer to download your favourite tracks. MP3 files can be up to 50 MB in size, and if you have a fast internet connection, they download almost instantly. An iPod comes with a built-in tuner as a standard, while some other models have additional tuning devices.

Once this is set up, you can plug your MP3 player into a good-quality speaker or docking station to listen to the music on your device. Friends and family can even take turns as the DJ at your swimming session!

  • Radio

You can also take a portable radio to the poolside if you wish to listen to music. Depending on the sound strength, you may need to connect speakers. The only drawback of a portable radio is that if you are in a public swimming area, you may not be allowed to play it. This type of equipment is ideal when you are enjoying swimming in your private space or an outdoor area large enough to accommodate your music without inconveniencing others, like a day out at the lake

  • Computer

Our computers help us learn, work, and relax, and while it might not be the most portable (and waterproof) option, your laptop probably contains a huge selection of your favourite tunes. As you would with an MP3 player, simply plug your laptop into a speaker and keep it at a safe distance from the water. You can also download new tracks while you’re out and about!

  • Phone

You can always connect your phone to a speaker if it has music downloaded on it or a streaming app installed. Even if it’s splashproof, make sure that the phone doesn’t accidentally drop into the pool; err on the side of caution and keep it away from the water. One disadvantage of using your phone as a music device is that if you receive a call, you may get distracted from your swimming session. Of course, you can just let the voicemail take it!

Why Music Helps When Swimming

There are plenty of benefits of listening to music when swimming or tackling any other activity or chore. Music that you enjoy releases feel-good hormones that boost your performance. When you are in good spirits, you are motivated to complete a task efficiently—in this case, is swimming.

Music is also believed to help you complete a task in a motivated way. If you are learning or refining your swimming strokes, different types of music that you enjoy will motivate you to keep at it. It’s also said to help by stimulating the brain, meaning you may retain muscle memory and become an efficient swimmer.

Another benefit of music is that it can help relieve stress. People sometimes do not realize how much strain they put on their bodies during the day. This means the combination of music and swimming may have health benefits such as the alleviation of stress, anxiety, and depression.

Conclusion

Music plays a positive role in one’s daily life because it releases feel-good hormones. This means listening to music while swimming may help you relax, get motivated, and refine your skills. There are different ways that you can listen to music by the pool, including the use of waterproof headphones, your phone, laptop, MP3 player, or radio.

Your choice of device depends on whether you are in a public or private swimming space. For example, the devices that include the use of loud speakers may not be permitted in a public space because of the inconvenience it may cause to people you’re sharing a pool with. However, if you’re enjoying a private pool party with friends, bring your best tunes!
