In the hustle and bustle that is the modern Christmas season, the true meaning of the holiday is all to easily forgotten. That is especially true of children. Christmas Star from Afar is a new game that makes it fun and easy to introduce kids to the original Christmas story.  Some teaching toys and games fail due to a heavy-handed approach. This delightful game avoids that mistake and conveys its message in a way that young children will enjoy.

Each game includes a hardcover book, a wooden star and a 14-piece nativity set. The simple concept of Christmas Star from Afar is rooted in the ageless fun of hide and seek. Colorful game pieces engage young imaginations. While comparisons to Elf on the Shelf aren’t completely off-base, Star from Afar has more in common with the classic Advent Calendar.

The object of the game is to find the Christmas star. Each night, after children find the star, the three wise men move to that location. The star travels somewhere new  every night until Christmas Eve. On the night before Christmas, the star moves to the top of the nativity stable. The next day children bring the three wise men to the nativity scene, where the wise men find the baby Jesus. As the conclusion of the game mimics the actual journey undertaken by the three wise men, children can relate Christmas Star from Afar to the biblical story.

The companion book contains scripture which parents can read each night after the three wise men find the location of the star. This helps reinforce the story and provides a biblical context to the gameplay. Star from Afar fits in well with other family traditions. Parents can make fun modifications to the game such as leaving a treat alongside the star every night.

Star from Afar is the brainchild of Natalie, creative director of Star Kids Company. This mom of three specializes in toys that combine play with purpose. The designs are simple and colorful, a refreshing change from high-tech gadgets. The goal is to encourage the development of children who are curious, kind, and loving.
