The American Red Cross is instrumental in helping thousands of families both nationally and internationally, but they can’t do it without the necessary funds and support. On April 9th, 2011, the Los Angeles Region of American Red Cross will host its biggest fundraiser of the year, the Red Tie Affair at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel, Santa Monica. Actress and philanthropist Betty White will be honored with the 2011 Crystal Cross Award for her efforts in animal welfare at the gala.
Red Tie Affair Festivities
The Red Cross at the Red Tie Affair will also be honoring a remarkable team of doctors from St. John’s Medical Center who assisted in the critical days and weeks after the Haiti tragedy, as well as Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet member Josh Duhamel. Duhamel, star of the “Transformers†trilogy and hit movie “Life as We Know It†with Katherine Heigl, helped raise funds for Red Cross Haiti Relief by leading a 2-mile “Youth Run for Haiti†on the Santa Monica beach.

The Red Tie Affair will include a gourmet dinner prepared by celebrity chef Nick Stellino paired with wines from Artesa Winery and Vineyards, a silent auction featuring irresistible temptations, a casino, live music, a performance by Romina Arena, the opportunity to join Josh Duhamel, his wife, Fergie, star of the Black Eyed Peas, and other celebrities at a high profile reception.
Red Cross Program for Animals
The Red Cross of Santa Monica is proudly spearheading the creation and establishment of a nationwide Red Cross program to aid and shelter animals during emergencies and to provide year-round pet CPR and pet first-aid classes. Betty White, with her lifelong advocacy of caring for animals, is the consummate embodiment of this national program. National Red Cross President and CEO Gail McGovern will attend this exclusive event recognizing the humanitarian spirit of extraordinary individuals.
Nick Stellino’s Encore to 2011 Red Tie Affair
Thanks to his success at last year’s event, Nick Stellino is welcomed back to the April 9, 2011 Red Tie Affair. Nick has published many cookbooks, including Dine In!, the companion to his public television series, Nick Stellino’s Family Kitchen. Nick makes numerous appearances at popular food festivals around the United States. He has been a featured guest on numerous national shows, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, Today, CBS This Morning and Good Morning America.
