Non-Invasive Breast Cancer Screening: Thermography by Dr. Diane Jordan

Most women groan in dread when the topic of a mammogram is raised. Traditionally, getting a mammogram, which exposes a woman to radiation and is extremely uncomfortable, was the only way to get a breast cancer screening until now. Using breast thermography, it is a painless, safe, non-invasive and time-effective method for early detection of breast cancer. This exciting technology, approved by the FDA since 1982, is now available in the South Bay by Dr. Diane Jordan DC.

Thermography vs. Mammograms – Effective and Painless Breast Cancer Screening

Most breast cancer grows blood vessels (angioneogenesis), and these vessels give off heat. These heat patterns can be seen on a thermogram several years before showing up on a mammogram. Breast thermography is a 15 minute, radiation-free screening tool. 6 views  are taken by a certified thermographic technician and then interpreted by a certified interpreter. A written report is sent to you.

The American Journal of Radiology reports that breast thermography has
99% sensitivity, 90% specificity, 90% Accuracy. All that with no compression and no radiation.

Now that’s something that any women would sigh in relief about.

No Age Restriction
Typically, you cannot get a mammogram until after forty years old.  With this type of breast screening, it is perfectly appropriate for any woman, regardless of age, even teenagers and pregnant women. Thermography is especially valuable for women with dense breasts, implants and family history of breast cancer. It is also an excellent monitoring tool for women who have had lumpectomies or mastectomies and want to limit their radiation exposure.

Earliest Detection

Thermography can detect subtle physiologic changes that accompany breast disease, whether it is fibrocystic disease, infection, vascular disease, or cancer. Mammograms, MRIs, and ultrasounds are all tests of anatomy. Because physiological changes often precede changes in anatomy, thermography offers very early detection of changes in the breast tissue.

It is an established fact that early detection of breast disease is crucial. This affords a woman time to pursue other less invasive treatments to return to health and most importantly, make lifestyle changes that are elemental to supporting disease-free living.

Studies show breast thermography has the ability to alert a woman of a developing cancer up to eight years before any other test. No other screening method detects cancer earlier especially combined with mammograms, self-examinations and regular doctor visits.

Other Uses for Breast Thermography

Another important use of thermal screening is to monitor the person who is using therapies to improve their breast health, and validate their progress in returning to a healthy state. For example, women with estrogenic activity in the breasts who are balancing their hormones, can see the changes taking place with thermography. Also, because no harmful radiation is being used, these screenings can be done as often as needed for watchful monitoring.
