Los Angeles, CA (July 19, 2010)— Lu Parker Project, led by KTLA’s Lu Parker, author and animal advocate, will open its doors this summer in an effort to bring together at-risk youth with animals in need. As a long time supporter of several rescue organizations including: Best Friends Animal Society, Parker works tirelessly for animal rescue and wellness advocacy.
Lu Parker Project is the result of her longtime goal to continue to save the lives of defenseless animals with the helping hands of inner-city children. Parker says, “As a former high school teacher, I have always believed children crave an outlet to express love and compassion. My dream is to help them find that outlet through Lu Parker Project by introducing them to animals who otherwise would never have a shot at knowing what love feels like.” In a series of efforts to beautify Los Angeles for humans and animals alike, Lu Parker Project will begin its first mission Project Paint which will revamp the South LA Animal Shelter lobby. This is the same shelter where Parker adopted her dog, Monkey.
In partnership with Urban Arts Crew, Best Friends Animal Society, Roots and Shoots, and Big Sunday, volunteers will come together to add a bit of creativity such as painted murals and artwork to the shelter. Among local volunteers, this project will also provide volunteer opportunities for at-risk students, as well as, shelter employees. Set to take place at 9am on Monday July 19th, 2010, Project Paint is the first of many endeavors for Lu Parker Project towards bettering the lives of L.A.’s inner-city youth as well as animals in need.
