Duracell-Chaske-with-SantasChaske Spencer of “New Moon” and “Raising the Bar’s” Mark-Paul Gosselaar pedaled for power at the Duracell Smart Lab in Times Square on Tuesday November 24th. All of their hard work will be added to power being collected to light the 2010 numerals on New Year’s Eve.

How They Are Helping

“New Moon” wolf Sam Uley, played by Chaske Spencer and Mark-Paul Gosselaar, star of TNT’s “Raising the Bar” and Broadway’s “The Understudy” helped by pedaling Power Rovers at the Duracell Smart Power Lab. The rovers are collecting energy to power the iconic 2010 numerals on New Year’s Eve. Joining the jolly Santas on hand to spread holiday cheer and ride the Power Rovers, Chaske and Spencer added to making possible what has become a known tradition for counting down to a new year.

Pedaling for Power

For the second year in a row, hopping on a Power Rover and pedaling gives New Yorkers and visitors the chance to actually have a hand in helping power the 2010 numerals. All they have to do is stop by the Duracell Smart Power Lab and ride. Now that the Smart Power Lab has opened with a collection goal set, pedalers with the biggest names will join consumers and Duracell to help reach the power collection goal.

Located at the Duracell Smart Power Lab are six Duracell Power Rivers which will be open to helpers through December 31, the rovers operate through rotary technology. From each pedal, energy travels through multiple forms until it reaches its storage space in the Duracell Battery Centers. First, human energy is captured through the pedaling. Next, it is converted into usable power. Then it is routed, and finally stored. The journey is not complete until it reaches One Times Square, where the stored power will light up the 2010 numerals as the New Year’s Eve Ball drops with the clock striking midnight.

This year, Duracell is collecting approximately 32,000 watt hours for the 2010 numerals on New Year’s Eve. To reach the goal, each Power Rover needs to be pedaled for approximately 166 hours.
