Artist Louis Carreon: Prison to War Torn Iraq

Louis Carreon’s art is bold, emotional and vivid, much like his colorful past and journey to becoming one of LA’s most sought after artists. Growing up in the OC, he began producing his work illegally as a graffiti artist in 1992.  After ten years of ‘spray and go’ graffiti painting, he transitioned to becoming a legal artist of fine art.

Incarceration
Unfortunately, he still had some illegal habits and spent time in prison for drug use. In prison, his work began taking shape as he used his time to sketch most of the pieces you can see today on canvas.  Sober since his prison days, his work is now coveted by many LA art collectors. Carreon’s newest collection features silk screen pieces inspired by fashion, friends and his own visions and views of life and the struggle of living in Los Angeles. Though colorful and bright, each painting has an underlying meaning that is most often cynical and dark.

Love in Iraq
Currently, his latest passion is to spread the word of love through urban art in the rural areas of Iraq with his eye-catching “All We Need Is Love” billboards. He wants to make a difference by demonstrating the power of positive, bright advertising in the streets of war torn Iraq.
