The red carpet glittered with stars on as Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman arrived at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood to support their new blockbuster film "Hancock."
The sidewalk outside Grauman’s wasn’t large enough for the red carpet, which had to be set on two lanes of Hollywood Blvd. The red carpet didn’t merely feature some of Hollywood’s biggest stars – it was also strewn with overturned police cars, taxis and ambulances punctuated with bits of pavement to replicate scenes from the movie.
Smith accommodated his fans by arriving early to sign autographs and pose for pictures. He was a fashion risk-taker in a bold checkered Tom Ford suit, while wife Jada Pinkett Smith glowed in a jade-green Herve Leroux gown. Theron, easily one’s of Hollywood’s loveliest and most glamorous actresses, looked stunning in a flowing goddess gown by John Galliano for Christian Dior, which she unexpectedly paired with flat Giuseppe Zanotti sandals. She was accompanied by longtime paramour Stuart Townsend. Also in attendance was Queen Latifah, who was inexplicably clad in workout attire, as well as P. Diddy, Amanda Peet, Jamie Foxx, Minnie Driver and Tatyana Ali.
In Sony’s "Hancock," Smith plays an ambivalent superhero with a declining reputation who saves the life of a public relations executive, played by Bateman, who then proceeds to revamp Hancock’s public image. Theron plays Bateman’s wife, who has her own reasons to be skeptical of Hancock.
The surprise of the night was at the after-party behind the El Capitan Theatre. Smith oozed his usual charisma and charm as he teamed up with DJ Jazzy Jeff to perform some old hits, including "Parents Just Don’t Understand" and "Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It".
