Love is in the Food at Whist Couples Cooking Class Jan. 30

Learn to prepare a romantic meal from Executive Chef Warren Schwartz of Whist at his special couples cooking class on January 30. The hands-on class is open to the public as well as to hotel guests, and includes tips on cooking and presentation, recipes for making an incredible Valentine’s Day meal at home, and suggestions for wine pairings. Guests will also have the opportunity to sample as they learn and sip wine throughout the evening.

The menu will include:

• Roasted beets, fresh goat cheese, puff pastry, baby greens, walnuts,
watermelon radish, and Meyer lemon vinaigrette
 • Poached Maine Lobster,
whipped Yukon gold potato, lobster butter and truffles
 • Roasted Liberty Farms duck breast,
sweet potato hash, smoked bacon and dried cherry reduction
 • A selection of chocolate truffles

When:  Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Where:  Whist at Viceroy Santa Monica, Bristol Room

Cost:  $150 per couple

Each guest will also have the chance to win a special Valentine’s Day Package which includes an Ocean View guestroom for the night of February 14, a welcome amenity of champagne and strawberries, and a romantic in-room dinner prepared by Chef Warren Schwartz.

If you don’t win you can still come back to dine at the Viceroy for Valentine’s Day. The evening’s 5-course dinner costs $105 (wine Pairings are $40 more) and includes:

First Course
• Roasted beets, fresh goat cheese, puff pastry, baby greens, walnuts,

• Carrot curry soup, sauted spot prawns, tarragon creame
 Second Course
• Poached Maine Lobster, serrano chilies, kumquat vanilla, arugula

• Grilled angus tenderloin, Portobello fries, Yukon gold potato cake and black truffle butter

• Wild striped bass, black Tuscan kale, beluga lentils, violet mustard, vermouth reduction
 Dessert
• Hand rolled truffles
