Making it Happen
Hosted by husband and wife team actor Bradley Whitford (The West Wing) and actress Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle), who also founded the Clothes off our Back charity, this event began with a fashion show at the Hollywood Palladium featuring the latest lingerie collection from Frederick’s of Hollywood. The evening was later capped off with the auction that was attended by Bradley and Jane’s closest friends, as well as members of the well-intentioned public.
The Charity
The Clothes Off Our Back Foundation (www.clothesoffourback.org) places celebrity attire (often their clothes from award shows) in online auctions. The proceeds from these auctions benefit many children’s charities and have helped to improve the lives of underprivileged children throughout the world.
Celebrity Designers
A few of the familiar faces seen at the action included, Karina Smirnoff (Dancing with the Stars), Rebecca de Mornay (John From Cincinnati) and Dita Von Teese (Burlesque star). Von Teese broke the record for a single sale, bringing in $20,000 for her multi-colored Swarovski crystal corset with pink feather tail.
Actress Scarlett Johansson proved to be no slouch either, as her platinum glass hand beaded corset with a champagne satin bodice and champagne-colored tulle sold for $11,000. Other celebrities putting their corsets up in the live auction were Christina Aguilera ($4,000), Mary J. Blige ($1,800), Jane Kaczmarek ($6,500), Beyonce Knowles ($8,000), and Gwen Stefani ($8,500)
A silent auction was also held featuring corsets designed by Courtney Cox and David
