City of Pasadena Announces Plans for ArtWeekend

Pasadena is the place to be Friday, October 12- Sunday, October 14th as the city opens it’s doors for a free weekend of live music, contemporary art, over 40 cultural exhibitions and hands-on activities. Pasadena ArtWeekend will run through several locations in Pasadena.

ArtNight is one of the highlights on Friday the 12th, as many cultural institutions open their doors to offer quality art, artifacts and music throughout the city. Some venues collaborating for this event include Armory Center for the Arts, Armory Northwest, Williamson Gallery of Art Center College of Design, Light Bringer Project at the Castle Green, One Colorado, Pasadena City College, Pasadena Conservatory of Music, Pasadena Museum of California Art, Pasadena Museum of History, Pasadena Jazz Institute, Pasadena Public Library- Central Library, Pasadena Playhouse and the Pasadena Symphony at the Civic Auditorium.

A highlight of Saturday’s festival is the ArtWalk, a one day jam packed art festival, giving you the chance to view and purchase artwork from acclaimed juried artists. Patssi Valdez and Margaret Garcia are among the legendary Chicana artists scheduled to participate this year. In addition, ArtWalk will also feature poetry readings, culinary art, live music and a medley of hands-on activities, as well as free admission to the Pacific Asia Museum and the Pasadena Museum of California Art.

A second highlight of Saturday’s events is the 9th Annual Latino History Parade. The event, themed The Sign of the Times, will feature cultural and historical roots of Latinos, and will also include arts and crafts workshops, information booths, food and more free entertainment!

Sunday will give the students, alumni and faculty from Art Center College of Design and the Pasadena City College a chance to showcase and sell their artwork, illustrations and ceramic designs at the Pasadena Art + Design Open Market.

ArtPerformance, a showcase of eclectic music, will also be featured on Sunday, hosted by Old Pasadena Management District and 89.9 KCRW. The outdoor performances will offer something for everyone, providing a wide range of genres and music from new talent to nationally recognized artists. Performers scheduled to take part include Meiko, Cambodian pop-rock sensation Dengue Fever, Culver City Dub Collective, Ceci Bastida, French chanteuse and songwriter Jessica Fichot, Sara Lov of Devics, Tijuanos as well as the LA Music Academy.
