In response to the rise of childhood inactivity internationally-known, athletics company Nike launched its NikeGO P.E. program back in 2003. NikeGO is what they call “a new kind of P.E.”. No more standing in line, taking turns to participate in games. Rather this program guarantees 30 minutes of constant physical activity for each student. The GO P.E. program was designed to develop student’s overall fitness as well as motor and social skills with strategies that integrate literacy, math and science, art and nutrition into school P.E. lessons.
With this program Nike has made its commitment to improving the quantity and quality of physical activity and education in America’s schools clear by providing curriculum, training, and follow-up support to school P.E. lessons.
Since its inception the program has been implemented in more than 400 public schools, reaching more than 75,000 students and on May 11th Allesandro Elementary School will be added to that growing list where Nike will present the school with a shoe closet filled with 200 pairs of shoes for the school’s 4th and 5th graders to add to the over $10,000 worth of GO P.E. equipment the school has already received from Nike.
